support and improvement of the provision of computing education in England
increasing teacher confidence in teaching the computing curriculum
This Computing Curriculum Hub, based at Chesterton Community College and within the Eastern Learning Alliance, is part of the national network supporting the work of the NCCE, ensuring teachers have access to a suite of relevant, inspiring, and effective CPD opportunities, covering practical and theoretical aspects of teaching computing.
The Primary Lead will work closely with the Computing Hub Lead and Computing Hub administrator to support the development and delivery of a local CPD programme that improves the skills and knowledge of the teachers and hence the outcomes for children.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
Recent experience of teaching Computing at KS1 or KS2 in England and excellent subject knowledge and understanding of the Computing Curriculum in the Primary sector in
Understanding of the key barriers to engagement in the computing curriculum
Experience of and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including teachers and schools
Good understanding of the wider educational landscape, and relevant local issues, challenges, and opportunities
Highly developed all-round communication skills, verbal and written
The ability to interact with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
Ability to think analytically and strategically, to respond creatively to challenges and to develop solutions.
Experience of working remotely with colleagues to deliver successful outcomes and the ability and willingness to travel.
Desirable
Excellent influencing skills, to support and challenge school leaders and teachers to manage professional learning programmes and curriculum change.
Live within Hub area of operations (Cambs/E. Northants/Bedford/South Holland)
Activities
Needs analysis and programme planning
Help develop an appropriate CPD programme based on local and regional needs analysis using all available data
Identify and attend key local and regional meetings to promote Computing and the Computing Hub provision
Contribute to needs analysis activity including meetings with Subject Leaders and Senior Leadership
Attend and contribute to NCCE meetings and work
Sustainability
Identify new facilitators within our area and potential partner schools and organisations
Develop approaches to communicating the Hub offer
Plan and facilitate local and regional events to provide Computing CPD and promote the work of the CH and NCCE
Identify and undertake personal CPD
Impact
Use the NCCE systems that are available to collect data, monitor and evaluate impact generally and develop additional approaches where necessary
Where appropriate, work with schools to monitor and evaluate the effect of the programme for teachers and students
Collaboration
Identify opportunities across the area to support teachers and students
Work with other Computing Hubs to promote and support the work of the network generally and to develop a “cross-border” approach
Identify other potential partner organisations and develop relationships
General duties and responsibilities
To participate in CCC processes as required.
To comply with the ELA policies and codes of practice in relation to Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and Quality Assurance.
To work flexibly in the interests of the CCC as required.
To participate in the College Performance Management Scheme and undertake staff development activities as appropriate.
