The Computer Science Department at Salesian
Due to the expansion of the current curriculum and the popularity of the subject growing at KS4 and KS5 alike, we are looking to appoint a new member to our successful team.
The department is currently made up of five teachers at KS4/5, with an additional two teachers from other subjects to support the KS3 curriculum. We have five IT suites across the school and college sites. The latest version of MS Office and the complete Adobe CC form the basis of our mainstream software along with additional specialised applications. All software and hardware are maintained by our outstanding IT support team.
In Key stage 3, students study Computing and attend two lessons per fortnight throughout the year. The curriculum is designed to enable students to transfer into a Computer Science course at Key Stage 4. We focus on developing their digital skills at KS3 and enhancing their digital literacy; whilst also giving pupils an early taste into programming.
At Key Stage 4 we offer Edexcel Computer Science. We typically have two classes opting for each subject in each year group and have enjoyed some excellent results in recent years.
At key Stage 5 we offer the T-Level in Digital Production Design and Development and OCR A-Level Computer Science. T-Levels are new courses designed to offer an attractive alternative to A-Levels and apprenticeships. T-Levels will combine classroom theory, practical learning, and an industry placement with an employer to make sure students have a real experience of the workplace.
A highly desirable candidate will be someone with the skills and experience to teach Computing across all Key Stages and able to support in the planning and provision of the curriculum for pupils at KS4 and KS5 respectively. The right candidate will be keen to develop their leadership skills and have a high level of self-motivation; as well as an ability to ensure the ongoing academic success of our pupils.
An ideal candidate would be keen to support our co-curricular programme designed at extending students’ knowledge of computing concepts and specifically coding in high level languages.
We achieve excellent results. At Key Stage 4 in 2025 52% of all pupils achieved grade 7-9 in GCSE Computer Science (compared to national average of 29%). We are certainly not complacent, there is still a lot to do, and we are excited about appointing the right person to support the department to achieve even greater success.
We are determined to make the Computer Science Department at Salesian the best in Surrey, if not the country! We look forward to meeting you and discussing your ideas to help us in achieving this end. Please do visit us and come and explore our department.

About Salesian School
Salesian School is characterised by the philosophy of the Salesian founder St John Bosco (1815-1888). He stressed high educational standards and sound moral and religious education. He insisted too on a friendly atmosphere in his schools where the idea of community could be fostered. We strive to ensure that every student experiences personally, a happy atmosphere that will help them to leave the school with a high level of confidence in their own abilities as well as excellent examination results. These goals are delivered through a strong pastoral system, excellent learning and teaching and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical and social extra-curricular activities.
It is at the foundation of our values to:
- Develop the whole person - mind, body and spirit
- Ensure relationships are key
- Ensure that all decisions are made in the best interests of the children
- Ensure that everything we do is based on Gospel values
We promise parents and students that we will:
- Ensure that students get the best results they are capable of achieving
- Develop the skills and attributes that students will need to be successful in the world of the future
- Develop the morals and values of our students to help them lead decent Christian lives and go on to promote these values throughout the world
We who work in Salesian Schools state our belief in our young people. We recognise that they come from differing backgrounds but that they are of equal value to God and to us. In the spirit of St John Bosco, we turn our efforts to those who stand in special need because of lack of material or emotional security.
We set out to create in our schools a joyful atmosphere in which the dignity and worth of each pupil and member of staff is recognised, developed and safeguarded. Our schools are noted for an atmosphere of welcome where all feel at home and a sense of safety and security. Staff are willing to be present with the pupils in friendship and to go that one step further, where this is necessary, to meet the needs of young people.
We strive to affirm, develop and challenge the abilities of each. We are concerned with the way in which each person matures within the context of the community. While recognising that national standards have a part to play, in seeking to achieve these, we emphasise the unique path each person will take. Our main criterion is personal worth. We prepare young people to be a positive influence in the places where they live and work with others.
Within our Salesian Schools we foster the spiritual, moral and religious development of our pupils and a lively celebration of prayer. In this, we respect where each one stands and his or her basic freedom to choose. However, we strive to present these important features of school life in a way that speaks to the needs and concerns of our young people.
We recognise that in our present age there are many social and educational tensions that stretch our staff, at times, to breaking point. In our schools, therefore, we undertake to affirm our commitment to and support for each other.
We also recognise that we are part of a network of schools within the Diocese and Local Area. We appreciate and respect the work of colleagues in these schools.
