As part of our commitment to excellence, we are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Computing Teacher and Subject Lead to join our team and lead the development of a robust and innovative computing curriculum across the primary phase.
Role Overview:
The Computing Teacher and Subject Lead will play a central role in delivering high-quality, engaging and interactive computing lessons to students aged 5-11 years old. You will be responsible for the teaching of computing in Years 1-6 while also collaborating with teachers and phase leaders (including Early Years) to ensure that computing skills and digital literacy are integrated throughout the wider curriculum. Your role will include implementation of the computing curriculum from Day 1 of the new school opening, whilst supporting colleagues to provide opportunities for pupils to develop their knowledge, creativity, and technical skills in computing.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the Computing Curriculum: Design, deliver, and review a stimulating and engaging computing curriculum for pupils aged 3-11 years. Ensure that the curriculum is progressive and appropriate for each age group, fostering a love for technology and learning.
• Discrete Computing Lessons: Teach discrete computing lessons to all primary phase students from Year 1 -Year 6, covering a wide range of topics including coding, digital literacy, online safety, and creative use of technology.
• Curriculum Integration: Work with phase leaders and teachers across subjects to ensure that computing skills and digital literacy are embedded within other areas of the curriculum, encouraging creativity and problem-solving.
• Innovative Teaching Practices: Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies that allow students to explore computing and technology in creative ways. Make use of a variety of tools, including Google, Apple, and Microsoft software, to enhance learning opportunities.
• Support and Mentorship: Provide support, training, and mentorship to teachers and staff on the effective use of technology in the classroom. Help colleagues integrate technology into their teaching practices, enhancing students' learning experiences.
• Assessment and Tracking: Monitor and assess students’ progress in computing, providing timely feedback and ensuring that students develop both technical and problem-solving skills.
• Professional Development: Stay up to date with the latest developments in technology and education. Attend professional development opportunities and share knowledge with staff to improve the overall use of technology within the school.
• Health and Safety: Ensure that computing resources are used safely and responsibly. Promote online safety and ensure that students are aware of the importance of responsible digital citizenship.
Person Specification:
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
• Proven experience and knowledge in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognized teaching qualification.
• Significant experience teaching computing at primary level (ideally ages 5-11), with a strong understanding of the UK national curriculum (or similar curriculum).
• Experience in leading or coordinating a computing curriculum in a school setting.
• Proficiency in using Google, Apple, and Microsoft software and platforms, with the ability to integrate them effectively into the classroom.
• Experience with teaching coding languages (e.g., Scratch, Python, HTML/CSS) and other relevant technologies (e.g., robotics, educational apps, multimedia tools).
• Strong commitment to professional development and staying abreast of developments in the field of educational technology.
Desirable Skills:
• A degree of equivalent qualification in an IT related field.
• Familiarity with the use of digital devices (e.g., tablets, laptops) in early years and primary education.
• Experience in developing and implementing online safety programs for young learners.
• Experience in leading projects or initiatives related to technology integration in schools.
• Knowledge of cloud-based platforms and tools to support teaching and learning (e.g., Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams).
• Experience in teaching coding and digital literacy to younger children (EYFS/KS1).
