Following a successful funding bid, we are now ready to launch of our brand-new, purpose-built Construction Centre! We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Construction Teacher to lead the way. This isn't just a classroom role; it’s an opportunity to shape the next generation of industry professionals within an environment designed specifically for BTEC delivery. The role:
Initially this will be a part-time role delivering the BTEC Level 1 Construction course to Key Stage 4 pupils on role with Melrose School. Once established, there will be capacity for additional days to deliver the programme to pupils from other sites across Melbury College. Following our successful internal launch, we intend to scale our provision, opening the centre's doors to local schools through a sustainable, fee-based partnership model. Our setting:
Melbury College is a partnership that includes Melrose School, Primary and Secondary Campuses (Special School for pupils with SEMH), Canterbury Campus (Secondary PRU), Lavender Campus (Medical) and Whatley Campus (ASD/ SpLD)
All of our pupils have an EHCP and have historically experienced significant barriers to learning in mainstream education. At Key Stage 4, we offer pupils a vocational pathway alongside their GCSEs. Pupils’ select this based on their career aspirations. We currently offer BTECs in a number of courses onsite such as Hair & Beauty and Animal Care however have historically used local providers for construction. You will need to be a resilient and dynamic teacher who has a strong commitment to personalised learning and who can promote a positive school culture. Candidates should have:
• an excellent teaching record
• experience of the use of restorative practices and effective behaviour management skills
• ability to monitor and review through self-evaluation, report writing and a clear system of record keeping
• ability to teach flexibly, innovatively and responsively in a challenging environment
• evidence of the ability to successfully manage and support pupils with SEMH
• the ability to plan and deliver outstanding teaching and learning for both individuals and small groups with high quality outcomes for all pupils
• Knowledge and experience of the construction trades along with delivery of BTEC or equivalent qualifications
• Ability to manage a small site and team; ensuring safeguarding and health and safety procedures are paramount
• Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, acting as a key ambassador for Melrose School.
You will be responsible for building effective links with local businesses and potential service users, ensuring the professional standards of Melbury College are upheld while cultivating the partnerships that will drive our centre’s future growth.
