Job overview

This is a very exciting time to join the marketing team at King’s College, Taunton. We have an ambitious new strategy and bold new plans to step-change how we engage with our existing and new audiences. Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, this role will be instrumental in uncovering the stories of the King’s Schools, planning the most impactful way to tell them, and leading the creation and sharing of content through the right channels at the right time.

You will be passionate about creating engaging and audience-focused content, with original ideas and a keen eye for opportunity, and experience across a range of channels and formats (including knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and photography and video skills). Alongside that you’ll be a strong copywriter, as at home in writing a press release as creating posts for social media. You’ll be confident in supporting the school’s website development, using analytics and data to understand and interpret performance, and happy to take ownership of the school’s e-communications schedule. Your collaborative, proactive and flexible way of working will mean that you’re able to work closely with internal teams and colleagues to draw out and manage a continuous flow of news, content, stories and ideas.

Direct experience of the education sector is not essential, but you must demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the opportunities and challenges it presents from a marketing and comms point of view.

The role offers generous benefits including employer pension contribution, free school lunch, free on-site parking, discretionary staff discount on school fees and use of the indoor swimming pool and sports facilities. King’s College is a thriving boarding and day school of approximately 450 pupils. It combines strong academic achievement, traditional values and excellent pastoral care with a progressive, modern outlook, providing girls and boys aged 13–18 with the opportunities, confidence and ability to reach their full potential within a happy and caring environment.

King’s College Prep l (located some three miles away) combines with King’s College to provide a continuous education from 2-18. The two schools are run by one governing body, with many functions (marketing, strategy and finance for example) undertaken jointly.

King’s College has a rich and welcoming family and community ethos. Just over 60% of the pupils board. For a relatively small school, it has an enviable record of success in all areas.

The school has regularly topped GCSE and A level league tables for Somerset. A broad range of co-curricular activities is offered, and the school is renowned for its success in sport, music, performing arts, fine art, design technology and outdoor pursuits. In many of these activities our pupils have achieved success at national and even international levels.

Good discipline is encouraged in a firm and positive way within a supportive pastoral framework. King’s College is strong on manners and social skills. Pupils go on to thrive at good universities and in their professional careers.

In short, King’s is a purposeful, outward-looking, down-to-earth, highly successful school.
