Together the Group forms a Sixth Form, Skills and Technology Centre, University Centre, employer training and adult learning provider delivering exceptional teaching and learning to all ages and at all levels. 


The Exciting Role 

The leading educational organisation is looking for an exceptional content writer to manage the Content and Media strategy for the College Group. We are an ambitious organisation whose brand purpose is to ‘Create the Extraordinary’. As our communications expert you will lead the College Group’s content and media activity, sharing our ‘extraordinary’ story and helping to shape the Group’s voice.

You will be an outstanding communicator with excellent copywriting skills and a successful track record in developing engaging content across a wide range of platforms. You will strive to raise the profile of the College Group and proactively generate positive and engaging coverage across all channels.

You will need to be experienced and confident writer who is as comfortable developing content for social media and writing copy for a press release as they are contributing to strategic discussions and developing campaigns. You will celebrate our learners by sharing their inspiring stories, recognising them through local national award entries and demonstrating the impact of the group and our phenomenal staff.

You will be a brand champion, passionate about the impact learning has on people’s lives and be driven to explore the inspiring stories at the heart of our organisation.  You will be an independent and creative thinker who enjoys working on their own initiative, as well as part of a team. You must enjoy rolling your sleeves up and getting stuck in! 

This role will be based at our Nelson and Colne College site however, travel will be required.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Develop brand tone of voice and shape messaging for a number of audiences across a range of channels

• Develop creative content across a range of channels to include online and offline media

• Finding and sharing the stories at the heart of a brand

What We Are Looking For:

• Relevant marketing qualification and/or training (Desirable)

• Significant writing experience 

• Experience in managing video projects and dealing with broadcast opportunities

• Excellent planning and organisational skills

• Comfortable working as part of the wider team on cross college projects as well as owning your own deadlines and working individually on specific activities

• An independent thinker who enjoys working in a team and has the ability to build relationships quickly

• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft software packages, WordPress (highly desirable), and social media platforms

• Experience of working in education is preferable

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
