The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz is an international boarding school with a history stretching back over 120 years, located near St. Moritz in the heart of the scenic Engadin valley (Switzerland). 220 boarders from around the world and 110 local day students study at our school for the Swiss Matura, the iGCSE, the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) and the International Career-Related Programme (IBCP). The opportunity has arisen to appoint a colleague in the following roles:

Coordinator and Teacher of EAL

for its Department of International Studies

  • Workload: 100%
  • Start date: August 2023

This post requires the successful candidate to both teach and coordinate EAL in the International Department. Experience or interest in preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language is advantageous, as is familiarity with the IB English B course.

A postgraduate qualification in a relevant area (Teaching English as a Second Language, Applied Linguistics) is required.

The EAL Coordinator:

  • Supports EAL students in approaching the curriculum and developing appropriate study skills
  • Works with teachers to develop and implement EAL teaching strategies (internal workshops, peer observations)
  • Coordinates yearly Cambridge language examinations for students in their final pre-IB year
  • Works closely with a second specialist EAL teacher to develop meaningful vertical articulation of the department’s overall EAL provision (DIS1 to DIS3)
  • Fosters within the department the understanding that all teaching involves language teaching
  • Requirements:
  • University degree, teaching diploma; postgraduate qualification in relevant area as described
  • IBDP & IGCSE Teaching experience preferred
  • Experience and enthusiasm for wider DP/CP student support – such as Extended Essay supervision
  • High standards of teaching and learning, and a commitment to collaborative professionalism
  • To contribute to extra-curricular activities such as competitions, enrichment activities and boarding life
  • EU/EFTA citizenship
