About the Role

To build and oversee the central wellbeing function of the Group and also develop the central wellbeing vision, charter, framework, and long-term as well as short-term wellbeing strategies. The Corporate Head of Wellbeing will be accountable for the execution of the wellbeing strategy and initiatives across the network of GEMS schools and play a key part in improving student outcomes, ensuring GEMS students reach their highest potential.

Key Accountabilities are:

  • Developing the wellbeing strategy and guiding GEMS in becoming a market mover in the area of wellbeing by initiating and executing various wellbeing initiatives and programs across the schools. Establish a degree of uniformity in the information collected from all schools.
  • This position requires an understanding of how wellbeing can influence the academic as well as the cross-curricular performance of the students. The role will require close collaboration across teams that include Principals, School wellbeing team, Wellbeing Champions, Counsellors, Senior Leadership Team, Education Team, and HR teams to support ongoing deliverables as well as strategic initiatives.
  • This unique and varied role requires in-depth knowledge of disciplines such as child psychology, youth health, wellbeing as well as exceptional leadership skills.

Strategy, Leadership, and Management:

  • Develop the wellbeing strategy, vision, charter, and framework of the group
  • Establish a robust organizational structure for the integration of wellbeing in the curriculum across the organisation, in agreement with Chief Education Officer to deliver the strategy
  • Lead the implementation of the wellbeing strategic plan ensuring it adheres to the overall GEMS mission, strategic plan, and targets.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with external agencies as well as regularly assess the ongoing needs of students and launch initiatives in response to feedback received
  • Collaborate with teams to integrate technology into wellbeing function of the group
  • Design and implement appropriate systems and processes to best support student and staff wellbeing.
  • Provide reports, advice, and guidance to the Senior Leadership team on issues and trends with student wellbeing
  • Lead Professional Dialogues and appraisals for relevant staff members and identify key talent for educational and business development in relation to counsellors.
  • Support the development of wellbeing requirements for new and existing schools
  • To work alongside the lead for Inclusion and Safeguarding to ensure robust provisions

Working with GEMS Governance:

  • Provide Chief Education Officer with appropriate, timely and relevant information and advice to enable them to exercise their responsibilities and ensure decisions are well informed, clear and implemented.
  • Ensure that GEMS meets all its legal and regulatory responsibilities and requirements for the schools.
  • Review and develop as required, policy proposals and initiatives for the Chief Education Officer’s discussion and decision.
  • Attend and lead meetings as required by your line manager

Education Leadership:

  • Develop educational strategies to secure equity of educational outcomes to enrich the school as a learning environment for its students, families, and the wider community.
  • Effectively lead and develop wellbeing initiatives across the network
  • Establish student-led wellbeing initiatives
  • Undertake initiatives in collaboration with the school counselling and pastoral care team
  • Lead the team through change to ensure the successful adoption of the various wellbeing models in line with requirements and current trends
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret school-level data to improve the availability and effectiveness of mental health services that encompass prevention, wellness promotion, and interventions – build capacity in students
  • Create platforms of external skill-building workshops and certification programs for staff and students from a range of diverse therapeutic modalities and approaches
  • Create marketing campaigns to encourage and promote wellness at GEMS
  • Monitoring company wellness programs across all schools
  • Oversee projects to improve health and wellness in corporate or community environments
  • Ensure alignment and baseline expectations across GEMS schools
  • Analyse trend data to understand the wellness levels of employees and students
  • Collaboratively develop a GEMS Wellbeing Curriculum to be used across all schools

Financial Planning and management:

  • Be responsible for the wellbeing budget; ensure that expenditure is controlled in line with budgets as approved by the Board.
  • Work with the Chief Education Officer to provide comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditures.

Risk management

  • Identify and evaluate the risks to GEMS people (clients, staff, management) property, finances, goodwill, and image; and implement measures to mitigate risks.

Promotion and representation of GEMS

  • Promote GEMS, representing it effectively and positively to all internal and external stakeholders, and seek opportunities to expand its role.
  • Must support the growth of new and existing schools with the movement of employees to new roles.
  • Maintain effective networks with all principal supporters and stakeholders.
  • Work with schools, in an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and flexible way, ensuring that the expertise within the whole school system is fully audited, utilised and quality assured.
  • Ensure GEMS (organisation, values, and achievements) is presented in an appropriate and professional manner to its customers and stakeholders.

Expected Qualification, Skills & Experience

Expected Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counselling, mental health, social work, psychology, public health, health administration, community health education, or related field
  • Preferred Certifications in CBT, NLP, DBT, coaching, nutrition, meditation
  • Experience with diverse wellbeing modalities and approaches (e.g. mindfulness, yoga, bodywork, reiki, Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, hypnotherapy, with qualifications)

Expected Experience:

  • Experience working in corporate wellness and coaching
  • Deep understanding of Eastern and Western psychology and human development
  • Experience in facilitating wellness training and experiential workshops
  • Experience working with a diverse population
  • Experience and proficiency in project and program management and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Willingness to be self-reflective, introspective, and committed to growth and learning
  • Demonstrated skills for managing conflict
  • Experience in marketing to promote wellness initiatives
  • Strong experience in strategic planning skills to develop wellness programs and initiatives
  • Experience in data analysis, tracking, and program review
  • The ideal candidate should possess a self-starter attitude, an analytical and holistic thinker with a strong control mindset, strong organisational skills, solutions-oriented, excellent interpersonal and communication skills combined with a high degree of professionalism, and the ability to work in a high-performing collaborative environment.
