Start date: January 2021. A unique opportunity to be a catalyst for social change.

Due to increased student numbers and being an oversubscribed college, we have an exciting opportunity for a teacher and Course Leader of A level Sociology.  The successful candidate will be an inspirational teacher who can demonstrate passion, integrity and a genuine commitment to improving the life chances of all our students.  Our standards and expectations are high and you will be challenged to make a significant contribution to our continuing drive for excellence.  In return, we will ensure that you have the opportunity to constantly develop your professional practice, work alongside outstanding and supportive colleagues, and enjoy excellent staff benefits.  If you share our belief that discrimination and deprivation should never limit the quality of a young person’s educational experience or their levels of achievement, we would love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the curriculum leadership team within the Humanities department which alongside Sociology consists of History, Politics, Geography and Philosophy Ethics & Religion.  Results on many of the courses are consistently above sixth form college averages both for raw outcomes and value added.  The department consists of seven exceptional teachers (three being sociology specialists) who work collaboratively to ensure that students receive an enjoyable, challenging learning experience and realise their full potential.  The Department is very well resourced and every member shares its ethos of team-work, mutual support and ongoing professional development.  As a new member of staff you will be assigned a supportive mentor and you will participate in the College’s outstanding CPD programme.

Huddersfield New College is ‘Disability Confident Leader’ employer and we are committed to fulfilling the disability provisions of the Equality Act 2010.  We’ll make all reasonable adjustments to enable you to attend the interview, should you be successful. We are committed to equal opportunities and safeguarding young people. Applications are welcomed from all sections of the community.

Please note that references will be requested from your current and previous employers for shortlisted candidates, in advance of interview dates.

The interview and assessment date for this post will be held week commencing 19th October.

The closing date for this vacancy is midday on Monday 12th October.
