The City of Stoke on Trent Sixth Form College is a thriving, lively and successful Sixth Form College, committed to social inclusion.  The College is located in an award-winning, state of the art building at the heart of the University Quarter in Stoke on Trent, adjacent to Stoke Railway Station, which provides excellent travel links.  In addition, all STEM students are taught in the University Science Centre which provides access to sophisticated university standard facilities.  In September 2017, the College achieved academy status as part of the Potteries Educational Trust.  The Trust is working collaboratively with educational institutions from across Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire and beyond, seeking to improve outcomes for all children and young people in the region.  In October 2017, Ofsted Inspectors graded the College ‘Good’ with several excellent features and praised staff and students for creating a supportive learning community.  Inspectors were impressed with the relentless focus on improving the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, leading to our learners making good or excellent progress.  The College’s mission is ‘A caring community, delivering excellence and inspiring futures.’  

Course Leader: Second in Science (with Physics specialism)

Salary: £24,765 - £40,418 per annum + allowance up to £2,621

The College is seeking to appoint an outstanding and inspirational teacher and Second in Science to work closely with an existing Curriculum Manager and the Assistant Director TLA (STEM), to effectively lead on the teaching, learning and assessment for Physics at the College, and thereby contribute effectively to the College’s science improvement strategy. This is an established and successful curriculum area with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and supporting learning. The area currently offers courses across all sciences at A Level, BTEC and GCSE and is excited to be introducing T Levels in Health and Science from September 2021.  In addition, the College is working with university partners to develop foundation degree programmes within science, to promote further and higher education, and to develop outreach links. This could be an exciting opportunity to work across a variety of successful institutions to promote and develop science progression across the city.  

The post holder will be expected to contribute to curriculum leadership, quality improvement and development within the science area. This will include improving student performance; managing the performance of teaching staff; co-ordinating delivery and assessment; resource management, monitoring and reporting; and the development of effective relations with external partners.

Salary for this post will be paid according to the Sixth Form College’s Salary Spine for Teachers plus TLA Allowance up to £2,621
