Job overview

The post is offered on a temporary (one year) contract in the first instance. The interventions teacher aspect of this role could also be combined with the part-time Reading Tutor post which is being advertised separately.

Fantastic Opportunity for Experienced Primary Teacher Wishing to
Develop Experience Across a Range of Year Groups

Seven Mills is a small, friendly and successful single-form entry primary school, located just five minutes walk from Canary Wharf. We currently have 240 keen, well-behaved children on roll who are eager to learn. The school was graded ‘good’ by Ofsted in 2014. We have a broad and balanced curriculum, and we work for creativity, excellence and enjoyment in everything we do. We have both experienced leadership and strong, well-established systems to support all our children to make good progress in their learning, including effective intervention programmes.

Due to some late staffing changes caused by changes in personal circumstances, we are currently looking for an additional teacher(s) to join our happy and dedicated team. This teacher will have a real passion for the ‘nuts and bolts’ of teaching and learning, including the fine detail of individual pupil progress, and will:

  • provide non-contact/PPA cover for classes from Year R - Year 5;
  • deliver some additional support/booster group teaching, probably in Years 3- 5;

We are looking for someone who can:

  • work sensitively and collaboratively alongside colleagues;
  • contribute to sustaining breadth, balance and meaningful pupil engagement within our topic-based curriculum.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • have solid, class-based experience of a range of different primary year groups/key stages, including Key Stage 2;
  • be a reflective practitioner, who is open to trying new ideas and strategies;
  • be a team player who supports colleagues and contributes to the whole school improvement initiatives that keep our teaching and learning standards as high as possible.

They will also:

  • understand that children are people, not numbers;
  • believe that teaching and learning should be fun;
  • enjoy inventing and delivering stimulating, exciting lessons;
  • have high expectations and pay attention to the detail of children’s individual social and learning needs;
  • have a genuine commitment to the celebration of diversity, including the day-to-day practice of inclusion of a wide-range of special needs within a small mainstream school;
  • enjoy working from first principles, not worksheets.

Further information and an application pack may be downloaded from the school's website: www.sevenmills.towerhamlets.sch.uk

 As we would like to appoint as early in September as possible, please contact the headteacher on head@sevenmills.towerhamlets.sch.uk to arrange an informal discussion of the role and/or visit to the school.

Supporting statements for applications should be no more than 800 words long, and should explain the experiences you have had to make you a good candidate for this post. The post is not suitable for NQTs.
