Bedales is an exciting, busy, round-the-clock boarding school that provides students a rounded education. Students take part in a range of scheduled lessons, activities and study sessions throughout the week to enrich their experience. You would provide support for that student experience by overseeing cover for lessons, activities, duties, invigilation and study sessions when others are absent.

Lessons will be planned by teachers.  Activities would be defined by the programme and could include board games, knitting or even electric-powered car design.  Duties can involve indoor and outdoor supervision of students during breaks, lunch and supper times.  Invigilation requirements will be set out by the exam boards and we uphold clear expectations to achieve the smooth running of exams.  Study sessions give students an opportunity to complete their homework (prep) in a purposeful and supportive environment. 

Duties

You will be responsible for:

  • Covering lessons, activities, duties, invigilation and study sessions as required by the day’s cover requirements
  • Ensuring students are following regulations regarding physical distancing, podding and managing behaviours in the classroom
  • Taking registers and following procedures regarding missing students
  • Distributing and collecting work
  • Managing student behaviours

Hours of work

Standard 25 hours per week to be worked, excluding unpaid breaks, during the hours of 08:25hrs to 20:15hrs. 

Hours per day will vary and the individual may be required to work over 5 or 6 days per week dependent on the operational requirements. 

Additional hours of up to 7 hrs per week may be required in accordance with the operational requirements of the school. 

Salary

£ 12,015 salary for fixed period based on the above standard hours and weeks of work.

Pre-Appointment Checks

All candidates will undergo a Safeguarding Suitability Interview and application for an Enhanced DBS and Barred List check and be asked to provide evidence they are eligible to work in the UK, on an on-going basis, at the shortlist stage of the selection process.  As per the school Safer Recruitment Policy all posts that work directly with children in a classroom setting or are responsible for instructing children are subject to a Prohibition from Teaching Check.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job candidates to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

Bedales School is an independent, co-educational, selective, day and boarding school for children aged 3-18. It is situated in Petersfield in Hampshire and there are 460 pupils on its roll. There are admission fees and scholarships and bursaries are available.

Bedales is a charitable trust and was founded in 1893 by J H Badley as a humane alternative to the authoritarian regimes of the late-Victorian public schools. Its founding ethos was, and still is, “Head, Hand and Heart.”
