Purpose of the Role

  • To manage the cover diary for planned and unplanned absences
  • To supervise whole classes undertaking pre-prepared activities provided by a teacher during short term absence of a member of teaching staff.

Main Areas of Responsibility

Managing cover:

  • Manage, arrange and coordinate all aspects of cover as required to ensure effective teaching and learning is uninterrupted and delivered within a safe environment.
  • Lead and manage a small team of cover supervisors including performance appraisals, continuing professional development and wellbeing.
  • Receive and process cover requests for planned absence and monitor and manage unplanned absences.
  • Manage the cover diary, assigning cover supervisors, available teaching staff and agency staff to ensure all lessons are supervised.
  • Book and liaise with agency staff during periods of high cover, managing the school’s cover budget.
  • Manage the re-rooming of classrooms during examination periods and other events.

Supervising Lessons:

  • Supervise pre-prepared activities and self directed learning in the short term planned / unplanned absence of teachers to provide continuity of learning for pupils.
  •  classroom / outside areas for lessons, ensuring that resources are available and cleared away at the end of the lessons and completed work is returned to teachers when appropriate.
  • Manage the behaviour of pupils whilst they are undertaking work to ensure a constructive learning environment and report, as appropriate, using agreed referral procedures any issues arising.

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week, Term Time plus one week for INSET days; working hours from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm (with 30-minute unpaid lunch break where free meals will be provided on site)

Salary: Full-time Equivalent salary from £32,076 to £34,834 per year, plus outer fringe allowance of £689 per annum

Pro-rata Salary for Term time plus one week contract:Range from £28,025 to £30,384 per annum (inclusive of annual outer fringe allowance)

The School has been rated outstanding by Ofsted in its last three inspections; and for the last six years we have continued to have success at both GCSE and A level. In 2023, over half of GCSE grades were at 9-7 and 92% of outcomes were graded 9-4. Our valued added score has been calculated by FFT to be +0.9 grades per entry. At A Level, our students achieve 41% A*/A and 68% A*-B. 95% of our students have accept university offers including several Oxbridge and Medicine places.
