Salary: £16,000 to £19,000

Start Date: January 2020, or sooner if possible

Contract Type: 8.30-4.30 Monday to Friday, term time only

EdStart opened its first Independent Specialist School in South Manchester in September 2010, and now operates across multiple sites throughout the North West. Our primary function is Alternative Provision, serving the region’s schools and young people by developing a suitable environment and curriculum to match their varying needs. Our pupils each develop an individual learning plan with their mentor or teacher which they then follow throughout their time with Edstart.

We are very excited to be opening two new centres in Bury in January 2020 and are looking to appoint two experienced Cover Supervisors/Academic and Behaviour Mentors.  Applicants should have previous experience of supporting KS3 pupils within an alternative provision as you will be required to work within  small groups, and at times on a 1:1 basis with pupils with additional ESBD needs who require additional support.

We are seeking individuals who can combine a secondary-age focus with a primary-age nurturing ability.  It is essential that you have effective behaviour management skills and are passionate about working with young people, particularly those who have become disengaged.

This post is suitable for you if you have:

• Experience of working as an unqualified teacher or cover supervisor, ideally in a SEN setting

• A strong desire to work with disengaged pupils and make a difference to their experience of education

• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff

• Experience of supporting pupils, potentially with challenging behaviour

• Good organisational abilities, a pro-active approach and the ability to form positive relationships with the pupils

If you can enthuse, motivate and engage students and would like the challenge of working in a demanding and rewarding environment then we want to hear from you.

We value and appreciate talent and always look to nurture this. If you are keen to train to teach, then we would look to support you in this.

EdStart Specialist Independent School first opened in South Manchester in September 2010, and now operates from an additional four sites in Salford, Bolton, Bury and Oldham. Its primary function is Alternative Provision, serving the regions schools and young people by developing a suitable environment and curriculum to match their varying needs. Graded 'Good' by Ofsted (March 2019), staff are now hard at work working towards achieving an 'Outstanding' school. With various academic and vocational qualifications being offered our aim is to re-engage young people, creating opportunities which lead to reintegration to school, further education or employment.
