Our Colchester campus are looking to recruit an experienced and interactive Cover Supervisor to join the team on a full time, 6-month fixed term basis (Feb – July 2022), to supervise whole classes in learning spaces, study lessons and to cover short term absence of teachers when required.

Person specification: 

• Experience working with children of relevant age in a learning environment 

• Working knowledge and experience of implementing national curriculum and other relevant learning programs and strategies 

• Understand statutory frameworks relating to teaching 

• Full working knowledge of relevant current policies, codes of practice and legislation 

• Understanding of SEND procedures 

• Meet Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards or equivalent qualification or experience (NVQ Level 4/5) 

• Grade A*-C in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) 

• Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities 

• Good communication skills written and verbal 

• A positive role model of professional practice and conduct to others 

• Able to model growth mindset behaviours to students 

• Uphold and promulgate the OneSchool UK ethos within all areas of responsibility

Key responsibilities:

• To supervise whole classes and to cover short term absence of teachers and to allow teachers to carry out professional duties and training. 

• To give instructions for the lesson, as provided by the teacher and keep pupils on task while maintaining good order.

• Coaches will support and coach students in study in the Learning Centre in alignment with the Learning to Learn pedagogy 

• To work with target groups of students, where required, to support learning 

• Cover Supervisors and Learning Centre Coaches can respond to general questions and provide general feedback to the teacher 

• Ensure learning centre protocols are adhered to by all students 

• Coaching of students in the learning centre ensuring appropriate level of support and behaviour management 

• Delivery of cover work set by absent teachers 

• Supervise pupils while they are engaged in learning activities and deal with immediate problems and emergencies 

• Manage pupil’s behaviour within the ethos and behavioural policies of the school

• Set high expectations of conduct whilst acting as a role model

• Respond to pupil queries on procedures whilst keeping pupils on task 

• Support the use of ICT within lessons as appropriate 

• To provide additional support for the administration team when not required for cover duties or classroom support 

• To perform such other duties as may be requested from time to time, commensurate with the role
