Job overview

Leigh Academy Bexley has a core team of Cover Supervisors who provide essential support across the school in periods of teacher absence, such as PPA cover, school trips, short absence, etc. We are growing our team and have an exciting opportunity to appoint an additional Cover Supervisor to join us as soon as possible. Cover Supervisors are responsible for providing instructions and ensuring the work set by the class teacher is worked on by students, answering students' general questions and reporting back to the teacher on a range of issues. Our successful candidate will enjoy working with secondary-aged students, be patient and empathetic, and be confident in leading a full class. It is an amazing opportunity and a great way of having a clear understanding of a school’s day-to-day operation if you are interested in undertaking ‘Teacher Training’ in the near future. A Cover Supervisor’s role allows you to explore a range of subjects within a school which further enhances one’s opportunities.

Please note that Cover Supervisors do not have any responsibility for planning lessons themselves, or any form of assessment of students' progress or development.

The working basis of this role is 36 hours per week during Term Time, plus 1 week inset.

Our commitment to safeguarding: Leigh Academies Trust and all of our academies are committed to ensuring the highest levels of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils, and we expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We adopt a fair, robust and consistent recruitment process across all academies and business units which is in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance. This includes online checks for shortlisted candidates - you can read more about this in our Recruitment Guidance. All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, references, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check.

Our commitment to equality and diversity: As a Trust, we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals, we all bring something unique to the role regardless of any protected characteristics which are why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise. We are committed to providing equality and fairness throughout our recruitment and employment practices and not discriminating on any grounds.

Our Vision

We believe that every student should have the opportunity to be extraordinary through developing academic, physical and emotional confidence. This means having the courage to take risks and learn from their mistakes.  Success in education, as in sport, is the result of successive small failures followed by ever increasing challenges. As we tell our students;  “Everything worth achieving is outside your comfort zone.”
