We are a thriving school providing high quality comprehensive education for children aged between 11 and 18 and enjoy an excellent reputation within the local community for our high standards.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, confident person to join our fantastic team of Cover Supervisors from January 2023.

The Role

In this key position, your primary duties will be to provide classroom cover during the short-term absence of a teacher, supervise students, implement set work and generally assist students to undertake and engage in the set learning activities to support their learning.

Other duties could involve administrative/technical support to subject departments, examination supervision and accompanying school trips.

This post would be ideal for an ECT or an aspiring teacher who wishes to develop their experience in a classroom.

Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to work both as a team and independently. Previous experience of working with young people is desirable and the ability to contribute to the wider life of the school would be an advantage. This is a varied role in which no two days are the same. If you are ambitious, inspirational, hard-working and self-motivated and want to be part of our success then we want to hear from you.

Working hours are 35 hours per week, 44.07 weeks per year (term time) although there is some flexibility in the hours.

Salary is £20,258 - £21,968 (FTE)

Temporary contract in the first instance (initially for one year).

The Burgate School and Sixth Form is a very successful and popular 11 – 18 mixed comprehensive school with an excellent reputation in the local community for very high educational standards.

We believe that Every Child Matters and we recognise all of our students as individuals, encouraging each to reach their full potential. Every member of staff is committed to raising standards of achievement and nurturing a culture of high expectations to drive success for each student. We want to support them in becoming independent learners, as well as confident and responsible young people.

At Burgate we achieve excellent examination results by setting aspirational targets for each child. Students work hard towards these targets assisted and encouraged by teachers who enthuse and motivate them in engaging and thought provoking lessons. Relatively small class sizes enable our teachers to focus on individuals to greater effect. We are relentless in our pursuit of the highest quality of learning and are proud of our continued outstanding results which are testament to this commitment.

With ‘Learning for Life’ as the school’s core philosophy, our hardworking, dedicated staff provide the best possible education in a safe, supportive and friendly environment where we offer a broad and balanced academic curriculum with a wide range of subjects offered at GCSE and A Level.

The Burgate is a school that expects both staff and students to strive to do their very best united by a common belief that everyone’s learning journey should be exciting and individual.
