Job overview

The Sylvia Young Theatre School is looking to appoint a Cover Supervisor / LSA

We are looking to appoint a Cover Supervisor/ LSA to join Sylvia Young Theatre School.

The successful individual will need to be confident to cover lessons in all subjects and also support our SEND students across Key stage 3 and 4 where required.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise students when a teacher is absent. Work is always set by the subject teacher for cover lessons, so your role will be to ensure this work is given to the students so that they can work through the material under your supervision, supporting them where necessary, and ensuring a good learning atmosphere.

When you are not on cover you will be assisting in lessons as a Learning Support Assistant, working alongside our school SEND department. You will provide support for students with additional needs both in lessons and in smaller group or 1:1 situations. You will need to be flexible to meet the various needs of all our students.

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and a can-do approach. You will be a team player, flexible, organised, hard working and committed to enabling children to flourish. All our staff are role models who have high expectations that inspire, motivate and challenge students. They all demonstrate consistent high standards of personal and professional conduct and lead by example.

We are a unique school in many ways as we have a 3 day academic curriculum and a 2 day vocational curriculum, however all our students still complete 9 GCSE subjects in Year 11 alongside their vocational curriculum.

The role is 3 days a week term time only and based in school. Our school day is 8.45am - 4.00pm. The days are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to the structure of the academic curriculum in our school there is no flexibility to change these days.

We welcome applications from candidates with experience gained from either the independent or state secondary sector, with no preference for a particular one. We would also welcome applications from those who are looking to move into teaching or wanting more school-based experience. This has proven to be a very successful route for graduates to gain school experience to support an application for teacher training.

Whilst we are known for our Performing Arts, we do not require candidates to have a performing acts specialism or background. The vocational side of the school is catered for entirely by the team who works alongside the Creative Director and there will be no scope for candidates to work in this area. We do however encourage our staff to make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school so you will have many opportunities to get involved in school events such as our regular trips to the theatre and school clubs such as Chess.

The wellbeing of staff is very important to us and our staff are very friendly and supportive. We are an experienced staff community and have a culture of sharing ideas that support each other in our pedagogy. Our school calendar year mirrors the borough's state sector which supports our staff who may have children in local schools.

Safeguarding

Sylvia Young Theatre School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and the successful applicant will be required to apply for a DBS disclosure.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Self-declaration is subject to Ministry of Justice guidance on the disclosure of criminal records. Further information can be found on GOV.UK.

References will be taken up after the short-listing process. Online and social media checks will also be made at this stage.

Please apply using the TES quick link application form.

Please see here for the full job pack.

Closing date for applicants is Sunday 27th April, however we reserve the right to interview and close the position earlier.

SALARY: £13,163.40. This is the salary for 3 days.

This is a Term Time only job (39 weeks per year)

Thank you for your interest in working in our school. We do hope that you will consider taking your next career step at the Sylvia Young Theatre School.
