We are a welcoming and supportive academy, with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child. We place students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning.

Our work is underpinned by three core values (Be Kind. Be Proud. Be Resilient) and a wonderful staff body who give their personal best daily to achieve our bold mission:

“Through expert teaching and pastoral care, the academy ensures that students flourish in a happy school. Students become the very best versions of themselves and reach their full potential. Students have a lasting positive impact on their family, their community and the world”

We are keen to recruit dedicated and ambitious individuals, who resonate with our values, and who will add value to our Academy in both academic terms and through involvement in the fabric of learning and success beyond the classroom.

The role of Cover Supervisor is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and driven individual, who possesses the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students.

As a Cover Supervisor you will be responsible for supervising students during short term teacher absences and assist in preparing the learning environment and the materials required. You will cover lessons of any subject using the cover work set by the teacher, set high expectations to motivate and challenge students whilst managing behaviour effectively and promoting a positive learning environment.

The post would ideally suit an individual considering a teaching career, but applications are welcome from any candidate with integrity, imagination and energy for this rewarding role. We have great experience in developing staff within this role who have gone on to a wide range of roles within the academy and Outwood Grange Academies Trust.

The Academy became part of the Outwood Family of Schools in 2012 and as a member of the Outwood Family we believe in putting Students First, raising standards and transforming lives.

A visit to our school to see our wonderful students, teaching and support staff in action is strongly encouraged and we invite you to contact hr@portland.outwood.com to arrange this.

Being part of Outwood Grange Academies Trust means that all staff have access to excellent opportunities for professional development at all levels, with scope to build a career across a range of schools. There is an opportunity for subject specific CPD and in school support to ensure that quality teaching and learning leads to outstanding outcomes for all students. As such we are keen to recruit a dedicated and ambitious professional who will add value to our Academy in both academic terms and through involvement in the fabric of learning and success beyond the classroom.

This post will be 35 hours per week, working term time plus 3 days. Salary is Grade 5 SCP 9 to SCP 11 - actual salary £18,290 to £18,968. Part-time will be considered.

We are proud that Outwood Academy Portland is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We are an 11-18 academy based in the large friendly town of Worksop, near Sheffield and Nottingham.

Since joining the Outwood Family in 2012, our students have achieved impressive exam result success.

We have created an educational environment where staff and students constantly strive to improve; where teachers sharpen their skills and expand their repertoires to deliver an outstanding learning experience; and where teachers, classroom assistants, mentors, tutors, inclusion support assistants and students operate as a seamless team. This enables everybody, staff and students, to not only see but also help fulfil the potential in each other. Following its latest visit, Ofsted noted that our ‘teachers and support staff comment positively about the opportunities they have for regular training to develop their skills.’

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Bronze Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
