Job overview

Are you considering a career in, or returning to, teaching? If so, Southchurch High School could have the perfect opportunity for you.

We are looking for a creative, self-motivated and confident person to join our dedicated team of cover supervisors. The successful candidate will cover lessons for absent teaching staff and work across the whole curriculum.  You will supervise work that has been set by the teacher to ensure continuity of learning and manage the behaviour of students in the classroom to encourage an effective learning environment.  No teaching experience is required; however, this role may suit anyone considering teaching as a career or someone returning to the profession.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

•         High levels of literacy, numeracy and good communication skills.

•        The vision and commitment to continually raise levels of achievement.

•         Knowledge and understanding of the key principles in delivering a classroom lesson (desirable but not essential as training will be provided).

We can offer you:

•         An extensive programme of relevant CPD for all staff.

•         Working with a committed, hardworking and supportive team with the desire to raise student achievement even further.

•         A strong emphasis on staff well-being and free access to external support agencies if needed.

•         Free eye test vouchers for all staff.

•         Cycle to work scheme.

•         Free onsite parking.

•         Very modern facilities, set in acres of grounds, located in a leafy suburb of Southend-on-Sea.

Our ethos is focused on ensuring all of our students achieve their full potential. The School’s focus on achievement is the same as at every Partnership Learning School. The atmosphere is disciplined and rigorous but also happy and caring.

Please note that the School can only consider completed School Application Forms and not CVs alone.

This is a public facing role and the successful candidate must speak fluent English.

Training will be provided and you will be expected to participate in ongoing professional development.

Closing date for applications: Noon on Friday, 19 April, 2024 (late applications may not be considered)

The School reserves the right to appoint a suitable candidate before the closing date.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by close of play on Tuesday, 23 April, 2024.

In line with recommended practice in the statutory guidance “Keeping Children Safe in Education", the school will conduct searches for information on shortlisted candidates which is publicly available on-line.

Please visit our website www.southchurchschool.com to download an Application form.  Alternatively contact the School by telephone on 01702 900777 or e-mail hr@southchurchschool.com with your contact details.  Completed Application Forms should be e-mailed to hr@southchurchschool.com

We are committed to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and operate safer recruitment practices and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The suitability of all prospective employees will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment. You will be asked to provide documentation, if shortlisted for interview, as proof of your identity and qualifications. All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, Right to Work, pre-employment health check questionnaire and satisfactory references. If you have recently lived in a country other than the United Kingdom, clearance from this country will also be requested and a certified translation may be required.

Southchurch High School is an amazing place to learn and work and our philosophy of ‘a community of opportunity, learning and aspiration’ sits at the centre of everything we do. Our belief is that people achieve the best outcomes when they enjoy what they’re doing, feel safe and are rewarded for their commitment and success. We therefore support and invest in our students and staff, whilst maintaining high expectations.

The school sits in five acres of land and has first class facilities for both students and staff. We recently moved into our new purpose built block, which was completed last year and we have just seen the completion of a brand new four court sports hall. These developments have helped to give the school a very positive future.

The school is located in a quiet suburb of Southend-on-Sea and benefits from excellent transport links. We are within easy reach of Chelmsford, Brentwood, Colchester and London.

Our students, of course, are at the heart of what we do and it is essential, whatever position you are applying for, that you relate well to children and young people. The students at Southchurch High School are a pleasure to work with; they are keen to learn, talented and well-behaved. Our school is oversubscribed and has a waiting list.
