Job overview

Our School

At St Joseph's, we are currently looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Cover Supervisor to join our team.

The School vision is striving for excellence through Resilience, Responsibility and Respect.

St Joseph’s Catholic School is a co-educational, comprehensive school serving the scattered rural community of South Wiltshire. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and are firmly committed to establishing first class standards and are proud of our achievements. Our expectations are high and this is reflected in our very successful academic record.

The Role

Within schools, someone in charge of a class in the absence of the regular teacher is said to be ‘covering’ the lesson.

The Cover Supervisor will oversee students in the absence of their normal teacher, passing on to them work that has been left for them, and ensuring that they work quietly and effectively throughout the lesson.

Cover supervisors are not qualified teachers. No special academic qualifications are required although sound Literacy & Numeracy skills, good inter-personal skills, and enthusiasm for working with young people are essential.

What we can offer to candidates

  • CPD programme and ongoing professional development of the highest standard
  • Free onsite Parking
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Healthcare Cashplan - cover towards optical and dental, private consultations and therapy appointments
  • Access to discount scheme which includes over 300 stores
  • Cycle to Work Scheme – current schemes allow eligible staff to purchase a bike/safety equipment. You do not pay income tax or national insurance contribution on the part of your salary which is “sacrificed” to pay for the bike or childcare vouchers.
  • A supportive and driven team of teachers and support staff

For further details please download an application pack from our website: https://sjcs.org.uk/current-vacancies/ Application forms, together with a covering letter, should be returned to Mrs K Snell HR and Staff Wellbeing Officer. Please email your application to ksn@sjcs.org.uk. Visits to our school and an informal discussion are welcomed.

St Joseph’s Catholic School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

For over forty years St. Joseph’s has provided Christian education for boys and girls of all abilities. As a small faith school we are proud of the fact that every pupil is known and valued.

Our aim is to provide a caring environment where individuals will flourish and develop in self-confidence.

Above all our school is rooted in Gospel values. Although a majority of our pupils are not catholic we aim to provide
everyone in our care with an educational experience which has a strong moral and spiritual message.

Our community is living and breathing, shaped by the people who belong to it, reflecting their attitudes and ambitions.
We believe that the high standards of behaviour we expect from pupils helps them to develop self-discipline and a moral basis on which to build their lives.

We have a growing reputation in the local community as a school that is constantly striving for new heights of excellence in everything that we do.

In 2011 the school was inspected by Ofsted who described the school in their overall evaluation as follows;

‘This is a school that provides good quality education in a caring and warm environment’.

Visitors to St. Joseph’s often comment on the happy atmosphere in the school and how friendly and welcoming they find the environment.

Please come and see for yourself the work that we do and the developments that are taking place.

You will see that being part of St. Joseph’s means looking towards the future with excitement and a philosophy of continuous improvement for the benefit of all pupils.
