Job overview

Cumnor House has long had a very strong reputation for an excellent academic provision that includes securing places for our children at the top Senior Schools in the South East and the country, as well as winning numerous academic and extra-curricular scholarships. We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, flexible and organised professionals to join our bank of casual cover staff providing short term supply cover. Applicants must be qualified teachers, with at least two years teaching experience. 

Casual cover staff are expected to be flexible and cover as needed within the school (Reception to Year 8) which includes leading lessons, marking work and assisting with duties and enrichment activities. 

Reporting to:

Deputy Head Academic (DHA) and the Academic Leadership Team (ALT).

 

Key responsibilities;

  • Provide cover for absent teachers across various subjects and ages between Reception and year 8
  • Deliver engaging and effective lessons based on provided lesson plans and materials
  • Maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Manage student behavior and ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure continuity of instruction and student progress


Supervision of pupils;

  • Adhere to the school’s behavior policy, following set procedures and guidelines in a calm manner.
  • Be aware of individual dietary and medical needs, including allergies, and of the procedures in case of emergency.


Safeguarding Responsibilities;

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children
  • Foster a culture of openness, safety, equality and protection
  • Provide a safe and welcoming environment where both children and adults feel secure, able to talk and believe that they are being listened to
  • Play a key role in the prevention of harm and an equal responsibility to act on any suspicion or disclosure that may indicate a child is at risk of harm 
  • When concerned about the welfare of a pupil, acting in the best interests of the pupil 


Desired Skills, Knowledge and Experience;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or relevant subject area
  • Teaching experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to different teaching assignments
  • Passion for working with children and fostering their academic and personal development
  • Previous experience of providing cover would be an advantage
