Job overview

The Role

We are seeking to recruit a Curriculum Development Manager for our new qualification. The Curriculum Development Manager (ABID) is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum course material units and assessments for the ABID qualification. The DistanceLearningCentre.com is committed to excellent quality throughout and the Curriculum Development Manager (ABID) is expected to show a similar commitment and work hard to achieve this goal in all areas within the scope of the role. This role requires highly developed communication skills and an in depth understanding of curriculum development, and assessment strategies.

The role of the Curriculum Development Manager (ABID) involves working closely with the Curriculum Development Team to drive curriculum innovation, development and implementation. It includes management of curriculum consultation and implementation of changes in conjunction with the Executive Management Team and with the relevant external agencies. The Curriculum Development Manager (ABID) will also work with the relevant specialist staff to devise effective and efficient methods of curriculum implementation.  The role involves staff training and development as well as significant interaction with learners and universities to secure, and develop progression routes for this new qualification.

The Curriculum Development Manager (ABID) will also be responsible for the implementation of new learning technologies in the delivery of the curriculum as well as being involved in the development and implementation of the marketing strategy for ABID.

The post also involves being the main point of contact for guidance on ABID. A further requirement will be to undertake any relevant training to fulfil the requirements of the post and to liaise with external organisations and agencies, as required, in relation to curriculum and qualification, and new learning technology related issues. The Curriculum Development Manager (ABID) must also maintain confidentiality and security with respect to the information to which s/he has access, which remains the property of the DistanceLearningCentre.com Ltd.

For these reasons, you will need to be well organised and autonomous, keeping accurate records on our Online College Management System. You will also need to reply promptly to communications from learners and staff.

The Team

You will work as part of an established team and interact regularly with both other tutors and colleagues with different roles within the organisation. You will meet regularly with colleagues at full team meetings and curriculum development meetings.

The staff turnover in the organisation is very low because we treat colleagues with respect as professionals and avoid the ‘blame culture’ which seems quite prevalent across the education sector; preferring to take an open and supportive approach to issues which may arise.

Other Information

You will be required to work some evenings in order to provide contact times for learners across different time zones, who may have full time jobs and other commitments. Weekend work may be occasionally required but is not common.

You will need to provide your own computer and internet connection but we will provide you with a mobile phone.

We would strongly advise that you visit our web site distancelearningcentre.com  to get a real feel for what we are like as an organisation, our ethos, our learner focused operation and our commitment to our staff.

DistanceLearningCentre.com Ltd is based in the UK and was established by a group of qualified teachers and lecturers in 1993, which makes it one of the longest established organisations of its kind. It is now the leading virtual college for Access to Higher Education in the UK. Our level of experience has led to us having a strong reputation for professionalism, reliability and quality, particularly with the Higher Education Institutions into which our students progress. We typically have over 700 learners progressing to over 100 different Universities each year.

Over the past few years, DistanceLearningCentre.com has expanded rapidly with over 2000 students studying at any given time. Although the organisation receives no government funding, it is still able to provide high‐quality courses at more competitive rates than most colleges. Our teaching staff are highly committed, working as a close‐knit supportive team, communicating regularly even though they all work from home. This approach is central to our ethos which is all about dedicated experienced educators enabling students to succeed in a friendly environment that contrasts significantly from traditional FE Colleges. Our staff turnover is very low, for the sector, as we employ and treat our staff as vocational professionals. We expect high standards from our staff but are very much opposed to the ‘blame culture’ which many teachers have experienced. Instead we operate a culture of support and openness in terms of tackling any problems which arise.

DistanceLearningCentre.com offers a range of distance learning courses (100% online) and specialises in Access to Higher Education Diplomas (accredited by Ascentis and QAA regulated) for learners wishing to enter Biomedical Science, Business, The Built Environment, Health Professions, Humanities, Law, Medicine, Midwifery, Nursing, Paramedicine, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Public Services, Social Science, Social Work, Sports Science, Teaching and other Health and Social Sciences. We also provide Level 2 qualifications in English, Maths and Science, Functional Skills and GCSEs.

We offer a uniquely individual, friendly and supportive service to all our students. This gives them every opportunity to succeed and fulfil their potential, studying flexibly at their own pace. Studying with us means students can work at home but still have a direct link to their own personal tutor through the Internet, by telephone or by post.

DistanceLearningCentre.com is particularly useful for people who for some reason cannot, or would rather not attend formal classes in a traditional college. We deliver with a personal touch producing high‐quality materials which only trainers with over 25 years of writing distance learning materials can achieve. We are very proud of our record of helping many people to realise their potential who may not have normally had such an opportunity due to: family or work commitments, social or cultural circumstances, geographical location, disability or simply a lack of confidence.

We are dedicated to operating with minimal environmental impact and recruit to provide equal opportunities irrespective of race, gender, age, sexuality or disability.
