Job overview

With its primary base in the recently refurbished City Campus, Wakefield College has a successful and growing Sixth Form offering, with A level programmes at its heart. Our provision comprises 25 A level subjects, BTEC Applied Science at levels 2 and 3, GCSE Science and Access to HE pathways in Humanities and in Science offered to adults.

Today, we have approximately 400 A level students, 60 Access Students, 100 GCSE Science Students and 80 BTEC Applied Science students in place. Having expanded consistently over the last 3 years and with healthy levels of enrolment expected to continue well into the future, our overall A Level achievement rate was an impressive 97% in 2016-17 and it’s a figure we intend to build upon.

As the Curriculum Development Manager, you’ll be at the heart of the process – working closely with the Head and Deputy Head of A levels to raise standards and inspire all learners. It’s a wide-ranging brief, where as well as assisting in the management and development of the curriculum within the Sixth Form, you’ll manage staff and resources, help improve student outcomes and have a personal teaching commitment in a relevant subject area aligned to your strengths and expertise.

For any outstanding classroom practitioner, who is ready for a new challenge and eager to play a key role in ensuring all students fulfil their potential, then this exciting role represents a rare opportunity to join the management team of a successful Sixth Form centre. To succeed, you’ll need to have:

  • A proven ability to make accurate judgements about the quality of teaching, learning and assessment
  • A degree in a relevant subject/discipline
  • Successful experience of teaching a relevant subject at level 3 (preferably A level) and the confidence to step up and take on a wider role
  • Some supervisory, curriculum or course management exposure within a College or Post-16 School environment.

See what we have to offer and come join us. You won’t be disappointed.
