The Hayesbrook School

The Hayesbrook School is a non-selective boys Academy (with a mixed Sixth Form) that specialises in sports and mathematics.

The wide ability school serves the communities of Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding areas, with all students supported and challenged to reach their own personal excellence.

The school has 763 students on roll. Our strengths are strong behaviour, examination success and an emphasis upon learning and teaching. The Hayesbrook School is also renowned for its success in extra-curricular activities and for its support of other school, both locally and nationally.

Our vision is simple – to ensure that all of our students achieve beyond our expectations and flourish as confident learners with the highest aspirations, ready for the university or careers of their choice and also ready for the world in which they will work and live.

Head of Department (Curriculum Leader): Design & Technology

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Head of Department to lead, manage and inspire students and staff to secure even more outstanding outcomes. You will have a proven record of raising attainment and accelerating progress. Your previous experience as a leader is less important to us than your clear vision on preparing the academy for the future of technology education; and on what can be achieved for our students and your team of committed and dedicated staff.

Technology subjects at Hayesbrook are extremely popular, with examination results showing outstanding progress and achievement, above national average. To maintain this and take it even further, our new colleague will have an unstinting belief that every young person, whatever their starting point can make and sustain exceptional progress and that our purpose is to change lives.

This is a full time position and will commence from January 2018. The salary for this position is MPS/UPS plus a TLR 2[3], £6,217 per annum.

You will use your application to demonstrate your skills and experience in relation to the advertised position.

About Leigh Academy Tonbridge

‘Behaviour and attitudes are exceptional’ Ofsted, 2022.

‘Staff are proud to work at the school. There is a strong culture of collaboration and sharing.’

The school’s small size means that all pupils are known, valued and nurtured.’

'Senior Leaders have a passionate and ambitious vision about providing high-quality education for all pupils at the school…senior leaders are relentless about raising standards and maintaining high expectations by keeping a high profile around the school.’

Joining us at Leigh Academy Tonbridge: Building on the strengths of our legacy school, Hayesbrook Academy, Leigh Academy Tonbridge will open our doors to the first cohort of year 7 students, including boys and girls, for September 2023.

Hayesbrook Academy first opened in 1964. Having always been an all-boys school, our history before then is closely linked to the old Sussex Road Boys School, where records go back to the early 1900’s, and so we have a strong tradition of education provision in Tonbridge. The modern day academy has always been an 11-18 comprehensive school with a mixed sixth form, serving the local community.

The Academy grows, adapts and thrives with each new cohort of students that are welcomed here every September and our recent move to Leigh Academies Trust has strengthened the academy’s ability to deliver the very best for our pupils.
