In September 2023 NSCG’s Stafford Campus will see the opening of our new £30m Skills and Innovation Centre which will include some of the most advanced engineering teaching and workshop facilities to be found in any college nationally.
A key focus for this new facility will be the development of our Automotive Engineering, Motorsport and Electric/Hybrid Vehicle provision and in order to support this we are seeking to appoint to one or more full time permanent Instructor/Lecturer/Curriculum Leader roles.
You will have an up to date understanding of the latest developments in this sector, particularly around electric and hybrid vehicle technology and/or a wide knowledge of motorsport from a practice and commercial perspective. Motorsport programmes attend race events and there may be an occasional weekend and visits to employers in this sector.
You will support the design of engaging lessons offering guidance and support to help and motivate all our students within motorsport and automotive engineering. We are particularly keen to develop innovative higher level and employer-led skills provision which establishes links with other disciplines within our Engineering provision and meets the current and future workforce needs of the local economy.
About you:
The ideal applicant will either be an experienced lecturer within the Motor/Engineering sector or be an industry expert who is looking to move into teaching for the first time. We can fully support those who have the expertise but are new to a teaching role.
You will have degree/higher level qualifications or equivalent in the motorsport/automotive engineering sector and/or extensive recent experience of working in the sector. Importantly you will have an enthusiastic, motivated and engaging approach to deliver academic and practical skills, energise students and support them to realise their goals. We are interested in hearing from individuals who are effective team players, keen to build relationships that will enrich the student experience.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver lively and interactive classroom based theoretical knowledge to a high standard on Motorsports (Level 3) and a range of automotive engineering programmes, (up to Level 3).
- Deliver inspirational and industry standard programmes that develop students’ skills knowledge and behaviours in automotive engineering and motorsports.
- Have a sound knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle technology and a willingness to keep up to date in the developments in this area in order to develop and extend our curriculum offer in electric technology and across all automotive engineering.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Has a degree qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant Motorsports/automotive engineering discipline.
- Has relevant motorsports and automotive engineering knowledge and expertise.
- Has knowledge of all current developments in the sector including electric vehicle technology and/or motorsports engineering.
- Has experience of delivering dynamic academic and practical lessons (or be willing to train for an appropriate teacher training qualification).
- holds English & maths GCSE (4-9) or equivalent
- Has willingness to work towards quality assurance qualifications.
- Has experience of assessing or working with Apprentices in a training environment is desirable.
- Has a clean driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Stafford College is a further education, non-denominational establishment for pupils over the age of 16. It is situated in Stafford Town Centre, on Earl Street. Approximately 3,231 students are enrolled at the college at present. 1,877 are in full-time education aged between 16 and 19 and another 680 are mature students studying part-time. Students are able to get their A-levels at the college, as well as a range of other qualifications.
