Job overview

Curriculum Leader - MFL

Required September 2017

MPS/UPS + TLR1

The Modern Foreign Languages Department at Moor End Academy is a fantastic place to work. Our curriculum is driven by creativity; we believe that students learn best when they enjoy their lessons. The MFL Department at Moor End Academy captures the attention and imagination of our students by teaching the usual in an unusual way. We believe that students should have a purpose to learning and feel that they are doing something real and meaningful, with the aim of developing successful learners, confident individuals and global citizens.

MFL is an integral and crucial part of the curriculum at Moor End Academy. The Curriculum Leader post is vital to the department’s contribution to the English Baccalaureate entitlement we have for our students. Our students begin AQA GCSE in either French or German in Year 9, and there has been increased curriculum time allocated to MFL to ensure success; for example, our Year 9 students have 4 periods of dedicated time per week in order to fully prepare them for GCSE. This is then continued with three lessons per week in Years 10 and 11.

As a member of the Modern Foreign Languages Department, a wealth of opportunities for personal and professional development will be open to you. As Curriculum Leader, you will be expected to take responsibility for leading on key areas of change (such as linear GCSE), as well as opportunities to participate in trips abroad and other extra-curricular MFL activities. You will be part of maintaining current high standards and will provide opportunities for students to extend their love of languages beyond the classroom.

Moor End Academy is a fantastic place to work and the Modern Foreign Languages Department is an important part of this. If you are a vibrant, passionate and innovative linguist who is not afraid to take risks and be challenged, this is a very exciting opportunity and we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date: 9am Monday 27th March 2017

Interview date: Wednesday 29th March 2017

Successful applicants will be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check via the DBS. The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Moor End is a converter Academy that opened on 17th August 2011. We converted as an outstanding school. Prior to this we were a community school. Moor End is a National Support school.  We play a leading role in the training and professional development of teachers and contribute towards the raising of standards across the school system through school to school support.

We are an award winning Academy and have continued to be recognised by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’.  We are a truly inclusive school that welcomes students of all abilities. Our aim is to create a safe, stimulating, ambitious and caring environment to enable our students to thrive and achieve excellence; to make certain our future generation have the self-confidence to use their talents and skills to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Our vision is to maximise every child’s potential to ensure we can confidently say,” we gave every student his or her GCSE passport to success.” We passionately believe, as educators, we have the power and responsibility to inspire our students to be the best they can be to enable our learners to pursue their dreams and become the leaders of tomorrow.

Our motivation is to ensure that positive relationships are at the core of what we do every day, along with high quality teaching and pastoral care overseen by strong leadership. What we believe will follow is a strong ethos, and students with high expectations who demonstrate exceptional behaviour and want to be part of our school community.

We insist on high standards of behaviour, appearance, work ethic and respect for all to enable our staff to teach our students well so they learn to the best of their ability and leave the Academy with a first-class education.

Central to our ethos is the promotion of our ‘every day’ 3 Core Values: Respect, Ambition and Responsibility, which underpin everything we do on a daily basis.

1.  Respect

We are well behaved and considerate to all staff and students in our learning community.

2.  Ambition

We are hardworking and have an ambitious attitude to succeed and achieve.

3.  Responsibility

We take ownership and act with integrity; we always do the right thing.

We want to expand our family of committed and skilled people, who will directly benefit the future of the next generation. If you wish to discuss any of the opportunities we have on offer, please contact us at jharrison@edu.moorend.org or call 01484 222230.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Kash Rafiq
