Job overview

Curriculum Leader of English

From September 2016, Tile Hill Wood School for girls, has taken on the education of the boys from Woodlands Academy, forming a co-educational school on Tile Hill Wood site.  We have drawn from our expertise in single sex education to continue to teach core subjects in single sex groups. From September 2017 the two schools will be known as West Coventry Academy.

Tile Hill Wood School is a fully comprehensive school which welcomes and nurtures children from a wide range of abilities and backgrounds.  Following our successful Ofsted inspection in November 2014 we are proud of the fact that we were judged “Good” in all aspects under the new more stringent framework.

We pride ourselves on the caring atmosphere of the school and the positive relationships we make with both students and parents ensuring that all are successful and achieve their true potential.

“Enjoy, Achieve, Aspire” is our motto and this underpins our work in all areas.  We have high expectations of all our students and encourage and support them so they have high aspirations for themselves.  We want them to enjoy their time with us and so the range of courses, activities and experiences on offer reflect the wide diversity of interests and needs the students have.

This is an exciting opportunity to join us on our journey to develop West Coventry Academy into an ‘Outstanding’ School with a vibrant community.  Are you a dynamic and inspirational teacher with the ability to motivate and lead our successful English Department?  Do you have the ability to drive our vision statement and a proven track record in raising student’s standards, to progress in English and to support the Team to enable this to happen?

Thank you for taking the time to visit our job site. We have worked hard throughout this first term of the academic year to welcome the boys from neighbouring Woodlands Academy and to provide the best possible education and pastoral care for all our students as we always have done.

There have been many highlights this term, ranging from our outstanding sporting successes in rugby and football, to enrichment activities with local universities, the NHS, businesses and the Army to our recent musical Christmas extravaganza.

We are busy building a brighter future for our students as a new school from September 2017 as the West Coventry Academy and have recently decided on a new uniform (black blazer and grey trousers/skirt) and on a new, student-designed logo which we will make public soon.

We are proud to build on the best traditions of single-sex education using the vast expertise from both Tile Hill Wood School and Woodlands Academy whilst capitalising on the benefits of a co-educative approach for tutorial time, PSHE days, performing arts and other areas of school life. We will update you regularly through our website, Twitter, Facebook and newsletters about our progress towards what soon will be the West Coventry Academy and I would like to thank you in advance for your support in building a brighter future together where every child will enjoy, achieve and aspire!

Aims, Principles & Ethos

SCHOOL AIMS

We have four main aims:

  • to develop the potential of each student to the full
  • to ensure equal access to a broad, balanced curriculum which is relevant to every student
  • to create an orderly, stimulating and happy atmosphere in which each individual is equally valued

  • to develop moral, social, cultural and international awareness

PRINCIPLES

We believe that students learn best:

  • when they are challenged and stimulated;
  • when learning experiences suit different levels of ability;
  • when students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning;
  • when they feel secure in an environment which respects their cultural, social and religious differences;
  • when staff have high expectations of all learners whatever their ability level or background.

We believe that every member of the school community has a part to play if we are to be educationally effective.

ETHOS

Our ethos is supported by a belief in the best of traditional values whilst meeting the challenge of preparing young men and women to meet the demands of a world in which technological advances are accelerating and awareness of an international dimension is ever more important.

We hope to cultivate a positive working atmosphere in which students respect themselves, each other and their environment. We expect students to be courteous and considerate, and to respond to reasonableness.

We believe that it is very important to acknowledge achievement whenever possible. Students receive commendations and certificates in recognition of personal success. Tutors encourage students to be proud of their achievements both in and out of school. Displays of work feature strongly around the school.

We deal firmly and appropriately with bad behaviour, lateness and truancy. We aim to involve parents as much as possible in the disciplinary process.
