Job overview

Are you passionate about teaching English? Are you a fantastic role model for our students? Do you have the drive and commitment to lead and enhance our successful department? If you can truthfully answer ‘yes’ to these questions then you may be the person for us. As an outstanding school, we are looking for an outstanding teacher and leader who has a genuine and infectious passion for the subject and will want to make a real difference to students’ enjoyment and education outcomes in English.

We are currently seeking an experienced and ambitious Curriculum Leader of English for September 2018 (although an earlier appointment for Whit will be considered). For the right candidate we are offering a highly competitive salary + TLR or Leadership Scale, with the opportunity to become a Specialist Leader of Education.

We have an excellent record of student achievement within the subject and as a girls’ school with a mixed Sixth Form we are looking for a Curriculum Leader for our department who is, first and foremost, a passionate and enthusiastic teacher who inspires students at all key stages but also a proactive and innovative leader who can drive the department forward and share in our ethos that better is always possible. The right candidate will be forward-thinking, highly motivated, ambitious and dynamic and have the experience to help bring fresh ideas to further improve the already successful department. It will be expected that they will work in collaboration with staff to further enhance and develop our engaging curriculum, ensuring lessons motivate and challenge students whilst also fostering a love for the subject that will continue beyond their time with us.

We offer a wealth of career opportunities for more experienced teachers as well as a full support programme for NQTs. A TLR level 1b or leadership pay scale is available for a candidate with exceptional experience.

If you are a highly motivated teacher and leader, with the passion and drive to succeed, we hope to hear from you.

We take pride in being a caring and well-ordered community where everyone is encouraged to develop self-awareness and personal responsibility and play a full part in the life of the school. Our Code of Conduct is based on respect, courtesy and consideration. We make sure that students who work hard, help others and show responsibility in their behaviour are properly recognised through our awards system. Commitment and success in sport or music are celebrated in the award of distinctive colours badges.

Our extensive curriculum is broad and balanced, giving all students the opportunity to develop their potential. A wide range of learning and teaching strategies is used to actively involve students in the learning process. Progress is carefully assessed and monitored.

Our Students

Young people entering Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College join a community which aims to put their wellbeing first. Students have a dedicated Pupil Reception area and on-site careers advisers as well as access to specialist counselling services and health professionals.

Each year group is guided by a team of form tutors led by an Achievement Coordinator. Their aim is to ensure that every individual makes progress in their achievement and personal development.

We listen to the views of our students . An extensive student questionnaire is used to inform school improvement planning and members of the school council play an important role in representing the pupil voice and contribute to the decision-making process.

Students were consulted about changes to the school uniform and the findings of student voice projects about learning and teaching are influential.

Our extensive programme of enrichment activities provides further opportunities for students personal development.

Outside the classroom.

We believe that a full involvement in school life fosters confidence, self-esteem and positive attitudes so we offer a very varied programme of extra-curricular activities. These take place at lunchtime, after school and in the holidays. We also encourage involvement in fundraising and other community projects and are proud of our students record of helping others.
