Copthall School is looking to appoint an energetic and passionate Curriculum Leader of Music to lead our thriving Music department. All students in Years 7-9 are taught Music twice fortnightly, and at Key Stage 4 students have the opportunity to study GCSE Music. At Key Stage 5, we intend to offer pathways into either A levels or vocational options, depending on the skills and uptake of our students.

Our students enthusiastically participate in an inspiring range of extra-curricular activities, performances, trips and events, which the school promotes and values. This includes opportunities to develop musical proficiency as part of our fortnightly ‘Enrichment Wednesday’ offer, where classes have included African drumming. Weekly instrumental and vocal lessons are offered, which support the curriculum and engagement in wider opportunities.

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated teacher who shares our desire for celebrating creativity, diversity and inspiring a love of the Performing arts.  The successful candidate will make a wide and varied contribution to overall life at our school while also maintaining the high profile of the Performing Arts.

The successful applicant will work closely with the Drama and Dance department where students also have two fortnightly lessons, with the opportunity to study GCSEs in these subject at KS4. At Key Stage 5, we intend to offer pathways into either A levels or vocational options for these subjects, depending on the skills and uptake of our students.

There is also a potential leadership of the Performing Arts Faculty responsibility with commensurate TLR. This will involve leading and overseeing a dedicated team of staff and ensuring the excellent teaching of Dance, Drama and Music throughout Key stages 3-5. Candidates wishing to be considered for a Faculty leadership responsibility are encouraged to express this in their personal statement, outlining relevant experience.

Candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • An ability to deliver consistently high quality of teaching, learning and assessment across Key Stages 3, 4 and possibly 5
  • A proven track record or the potential to secure excellent student outcomes in Music GCSE examinations
  • A commitment to championing our students to ensure that regardless of their starting point, they are able to make excellent progress
  • A commitment to developing curriculum and enrichment activities within the Music department and Performing Arts team
  • Will raise the profile of Music across the school and the wider community
