Job overview

“Intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong” (John F. Kennedy) and this is a philosophy we very much adhere to. This is a good school with great students and ambitious, talented staff, who aim to develop world class students who have the belief in themselves that anything is possible.

PE is central to our curriculum and we value the role that this subject plays in our students’ education. The successful candidate will be joining and leading a strong, experienced team of subject specialists, who are keen to continue to develop and grow. PE is a very popular subject at all key stages and the successful candidate would ideally be able to teach PE to A Level.

This is a very exciting time to be in this role, as our brand-new sports hall is about to be built.  These new facilities, which will be the best in the county, will include a state-of-the-art sports hall, a purpose-built performance studio with sprung floor, alongside brand-new changing facilities and work space for the PE department.

We also have thriving extra-curricular activities programme with many school teams involved in a wide variety of sports.  We also have strong partnerships with a variety of local external clubs, such as The Chiltern Cheetahs and are active members of our School Sports Partnership.

Do you want to work in a school that?

• Places high importance on PE.

• Has a bespoke CPDL programme, described by Ofsted as “exemplary”

• Takes an evidence informed approach to school improvement, only implementing what we feel will make the biggest difference to the lives and outcomes of our young people, being mindful of staff workload and well-being.

• Is a key provider of initial teacher training in the local area, working with several local teaching schools and universities including the Astra Teaching School Alliance and the University of Oxford Department of Education.

Our staff tell us they genuinely feel like part of a team; a team who are striving to help each student flourish both academically and personally.

Our students and staff are keen to meet you and show off our super school, so why not come and visit before you apply? We very much welcome interested candidates to contact us to arrange an informal visit.

The closing date for applications is 9.00am Monday 30 March 2020 and the interviews will be held on Thursday 2 April 2020.  We reserve the right to invite any exceptional candidates in before this date, therefore potential candidates are advised to apply as early as possible or make informal enquiries for more information to: Please contact Debbie Murray via email HeadsPA@themisbourne.co.uk to arrange a tour or if you would like to receive an application pack.

As Headteacher it gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the trustees, staff and students to welcome you to The Misbourne. Thank you for showing an interest in working with us.

This is a good school where every student really does matter and where our team of professional and passionate staff works hard to instil the belief in each of them that they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.

We believe that there are three things that are important to working in a school. Firstly, the students. We are fortunate to have polite and respectful students with well-supported families who want to work hard and do well but for some, lack the self-belief to really achieve their full potential. Secondly, a supportive staff body and investment in continued professional development. Staff are happy to work here and are very rightly proud of their school. They are supported by a comprehensive training programme that takes into account individual roles as well as career progression and aspirations. We are linked to two teaching schools and take a lead role in delivering training sessions for trainees from across Buckinghamshire.

Thirdly, our facilities. We are fortunate to have excellent facilities across the curriculum including a new building for the Sixth Form, English department and school café; extensive playing fields; three new IT suites and brand-new multi-million pound sports centre including dance space and fitness suite (free to use for staff). We have recently transitioned to Google in preparation for Year 7 commencing blended learning using chromebooks from September 2023.We believe that there are no barriers to learning that cannot be overcome. We strive for educational excellence in every lesson, every day, through a climate of high expectations, which are actively promoted in all aspects of school life. The Misbourne provides a learning environment that allows all students to flourish through mutual respect, kindness and a strong desire to achieve.

Through inspiring teaching; excellent pastoral care and strong partnerships with families and the wider community, our students leave us with the qualifications, skills and values needed to lead happy and successful lives and we are looking for similarly dedicated and inspirational colleagues to join us.

This is such an exciting time for the school and we welcome applications from prospective employees who share our vision, values and aspirations for students.

If you would like to visit us and see for yourself, I would encourage you to make arrangements for a tour via the school office admin@themisbourne.co.uk. Staff and students are exceptionally proud of our school and we would love to show you around.

Mr Rich Peters (LL.B) Hons
