Job overview

We are looking for a well-motivated Creative Industries Curriculum Support Assistant. This is a highly technical role that will involve the maintenance of a wide variety of specialist Art and Design equipment, the management of stock, and preparing artwork for exhibitions.

You will be a keen, personable and dedicated individual with a positive, and optimistic can-do attitude, able to contribute to a vibrant and thriving Academy. You will be able to work from your own initiative, working in a practical way to ensure our specialist spaces offer the best possible learning experience. Extensive knowledge of Art and Design equipment and processes are essential.

You should be organised and have excellent interpersonal skills together with a commitment to working effectively as part of a team.  Your primary focus will be in Art and Design, but an ability to work in other areas across the Creative Industries faculty would be desirable.

You will need to undertake a wide range of duties and responsibilities including:

  •  Care and maintenance of equipment, tools and machinery.
  • Ordering of basic and specialist materials and supplying staff with specific requirements using College procurement systems.
  • Preparing specialist Art and Design spaces for learning.
  • Monitoring loans of specialist equipment to students.

 

In addition to the minimum requirements detailed above, candidates must also have a Level 2 or equivalent qualification in maths and English or be willing to work towards one. Experience of working in an educational institution, in particular Further Education and any First Aid qualifications would be distinct advantages.

Derby College is a large general further education college with four sites in or near the city of Derby. It supports around 26,000 learners, who choose from more than 1,000 full-time and part-time apprenticeship, A-level, BTEC and NVQ courses.   

Derby College was established as a single institution in 2002 by merging three further education colleges: Mackworth Tertiary College, Wilmorton Tertiary College and Broomfield Agricultural College. A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
