We are looking for a Data Manager manage the group student data for our three sixth from colleges in relation to core school activities and take a lead role in the deployment of our new school management information systems (MIS). MPW have recently selected iSAMS to replace a legacy system and strong knowledge of iSAMS will be a distinct advantage.

Based at our Head Office in South Kensington, the Data Manager sits withing a centralised IT team. You will also work closely with the school leadership teams and other key stakeholders to develop and implement data strategies that support the individual college and group objectives.

This is a fast-paced and varied role, with a great opportunity for progression for someone with strong experience in data management.  

About The Role

You will:

  • Manage the college’s database systems, ensuring that they are up-to-date, accurate, and accessible to key stakeholders. Supporting the core/supper users in the pursuit of these goals.
  • Develop and implement data management policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and security of the college’s data and information systems.
  • Analyse and interpret data to identify trends and patterns and provide insights to support decision-making at all levels of the college.
  • Work with colleagues on the reporting suite
  • Define new and enhance existing reports to meet the college and external stakeholder needs
  • Assist with training and supporting staff on the use of data systems and software, including providing guidance on best practices for data management.
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in data management technologies and trends, and make recommendations for improvements to the college’s systems and processes.
  • Develop the functionality of our MIS
  • Improve business process and data entry
  • Improve the communications to students and parents through portal developments
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to ensure that data is captured and reported accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work with external partners – and central IT colleagues - to develop data sharing agreements and ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations.


About You

You have:

  • Knowledge of Management Information Systems, particularly iSAMS
  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders with conflicting demands
  • Experience of using advanced features of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Willingness to train and develop key staff
  • Develop a culture of best practise and share knowledge
  • Take time to understand the business needs and communicate effectively the technical interpretations and limitations
  • Strong numeracy skills to deal with statistical data.
  • A structured, and organised approach to work, with the ability to manage own workload and meet deadlines
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team and be flexible.
  • Working knowledge of PowerBI and/or SQL Server reporting SSRS. (Preferred not essential)
  • Knowledge of data management software, database systems, and data protection regulations.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex data to a range of audiences.           
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Mander Portman Woodward London, commonly referred to as MPW, is one of a group of independent colleges providing GCSE and A-level education for 14- to 20-year-olds. The other mixed, non-denominational colleges are located in Birmingham and Cambridge.

The school was established in 1973 by Robert Woodward, Rodney Portman and Nicholas Mander, which is where MPW gets its name. In 2016, the group was sold by Levine Leichtman Capital Partners Incorporated, a Los Angeles private equity firm, to the education firm Kaplan International.

Mander Portman Woodward believes in giving students as much personal attention as possible, and ensures that there are fewer than 10 students in every class. The college's mission is to work with students to turn their academic aspirations into reality.  It takes students from Year 10 and has a particularly strong reputation for its sixth-form provision.
