Job overview

This is an opportunity for an experienced Data Manager to play a vital role in enhancing Emanuel School’s MIS systems and delivering high quality and accurate reports and databases.

You will work with the academic management team, planning the best ways to design reports and databases to deliver the right information at the right time, taking responsibility for MS SQL databases, creating and publishing complex reports to the report server, using SSIS, SSRS and other data tools.  

You will be a key user and driver of enhancements to the school’s main MIS system (iSAMS) as well as the school’s e-learning platform (Firefly) which also acts as the main portal for staff, pupils and parents to access key school documents and resources.  The role will also involve leading on a range of projects to develop and support the websites and databases that underpin the school’s communication and development strategies. You will also be expected to enhance and automate business processes and periodically be required to develop web-based applications and dashboards.

The successful candidate will be confident using SQL databases, producing SSRS reports, manipulating and analysing data and other data/application projects across the school. A meticulous approach to data checking is also important, along with an excellent understanding of how IT can underpin management decision making and processes. Equally important are excellent skills in SQL Query writing, server reporting and server integration services.

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.
