About the role

We’re looking for a Dean of Academic Studies to head up the leadership and management of The City of Liverpool College’s academic activity across all the College’s subject areas, making sure our principles, philosophy and values are embedded into all that we do.

Our new Dean of Academic Studies will play an active role as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team to ensure our students receive an outstanding student experience. With line management accountability for a new Assistant Dean of Academic Studies and working closely with the Vice Principal Curriculum Development and Innovation, The Dean for Higher Education, College Directors, and Heads of Faculty, you will deliver continuous academic growth for learners on all the College programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate, inspiring, and highly skilled individual wanting to support the development of an integrated learner approach through the delivery of curriculum, learning support and student wellbeing.

The curriculum you will lead on will be innovative and modern, and you will possess the skills to identify opportunities in new and emerging marketing, working closely with stakeholders and key educational partners. With a strong emphasis on partnership-working, you will drive enhancements in reputation and, most importantly, student outcomes.

The role will implement strategies that build upon lessons learnt from the pandemic years to take the best parts of a blended learning approach to support catch up learning, reinforcement and stretch and challenge of all our learners.

To deliver on the above, we are looking for an exceptional individual who possesses brilliant interpersonal skills, an ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and a passion for providing accessible, high quality, life transforming education.

You will be a positive role model with the ability to challenge, mentor and coach. You will be a developer of a high-performance culture, intolerant of underperformance and possess a track record of securing buy-in and support through constructive challenge.

You’ll be passionate about delivering consistent success and be resilient and comfortable with ambiguity. The ability to operate under pressure in a fast-paced, evolving environment is a must, along with a desire to support and inspire others to do the same.

You’ll have a robust knowledge of research-informed approaches to addressing disadvantage and supporting learners to succeed and can develop pedagogical approaches in academic curriculum that support all learners to succeed and thrive.

You will be able to showcase a proven ability in effectively managing the finances of a large, diverse, and complex curriculum area and be committed to your own continuous professional development. You must have a willingness and ability to engage with current technologies and embrace diverse and evolving technologies and pedagogy to ensure a modern and effective student experience.

Innovation will be second nature to you. You’ll be a critical thinker who is able to adopt to a growth mindset that supports the College’s aspirations around systems leadership and continuous improvement with regards to the end-to-end student experience.

Opened in 1992 after being formed from a number of colleges in the city we now have 5 locations situated in the heart of Liverpool. Currently the college serves more than a third of all 16-18 year olds in Liverpool, and educates almost 12,000 learners a year. In 2018 the college achieved a pass rate of 99.6% beating the national average of 97.6% for a-level results. Within this year as well we had a 100% pass rate in modern languages.

However, the college itself is not just facts and figures. The mission statement of provide high quality skills and education by delivering opportunities for growth to all people and business of the Liverpool City region, shows inclusivity and a community understanding. The ease in which to get here helps quite a lot to. Be it driving, buses, trains or even a ferry you are never short of options. 

Being that working/living in Liverpool does offer a wide range of experiences to have. Historical buildings like the Bombed out church, Royal court theatre house or even a hidden gem like the Bluecoat School lane which boasts being the oldest building in Liverpool. The Beatles museum is a popular place to explore the band and possible find bits out about them you might not have known. Or if just unwinding and relaxing there are multiple pubs/bars, restaurants, and comedy nights to enjoy.
