The role:

  • The Dean of the Design School at the London College of Communication will provide strong academic and managerial leadership to the School and will contribute to the strategic development of the College and thereby the University.
  • You will be accountable to the PVC/Head of College and will be a member of the College’s Executive Group.
  • An initial principal and important responsibility for the successful candidate will be significant input to the planned relocation of the College to a new world class building over the next five years.  The Dean will be responsible for ensuring that all learning and teaching in the School is supported by appropriate and effective digital and physical learning environments that utilise progressive teaching practices.

Your profile:

  • With a Post Graduate qualification in a creative industries related area and preferably a PhD in one of the Design Schools subjects, you will be recognised as a leading authority in your subject with widespread public or professional recognition. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of one or more fields of contemporary design related research, and understand the mechanisms for managing and funding researchers.
  • With a real ‘can do’ approach to achieving required outcomes, you will have the ability to effectively plan, prioritise and manage complex projects or activities in order to achieve the College’s long term strategic objectives. Throughout your career you will have gained experience of shaping and influencing developments through your personal contribution to your area of expertise.
  • As a leader, you will have gained experience of motivating and leading teams effectively and promoting collaboration across functions.
  • Your knowledge of commercialising design/creative industries courses, facilities and research will ensure income generation for the College and you will be able to initiate innovative solutions to problems which have a strategic impact.
