An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Automotive Construction and Engineering department as a Department Team Leader for Motor Vehicle and Logistics.

As a member of the College Management Team you will report to the Head of Department in the management and operation of the department. You will be required to deliver and promote high quality, student focused teaching and learning, co-ordinate and monitor internal and external standards. You will be responsible for line management of teaching and support staff as allocated by the Head of Department to ensure delivery of an outstanding quality focused education. You will work with the Head of Department to ensure the effective management and deployment of resources is in line with budget allocations. Your role will include the collection, analysis and reporting of data.

Key responsibilities (but not limited to) are as follows:

  • Responsible for the delivery outstanding Teaching and Learning within the department, sharing of good practice and quality standards. Keeping up to date with any changes in assessment and curriculum.
  • Monitor key performance data and implement associated remedial actions, ensuring regular communication with teaching staff, support areas and Head of Department. Ensure timely and accurate recording and record keeping in line with internal and external systems and procedures.
  • Work with budget allocations to effectively manage resources to ensure an outstanding learner experience. Ensure learner records are accurate and maintained in line with data protection and TMC policies.
  • Have a significant role in the recruitment, interview, enrollment and initial assessment of all students. Promote and attend internal and external recruitment events. 
  • Deputise for the Head of Department when required.
  • Participate in and support others in continual professional development activities to ensure skills and qualifications are in line with sector best practice.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the College`s Single Equality Scheme, supporting policies and action plans.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Degree Level Qualification or relevant industrial experience or professional qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Numeracy and Literacy Skills (to level 2 or equivalent)
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a group/team to bring about improvements
  • Knowledge and successful experience of internal and external qualification procedures
  • Experience of teaching up to and including Level 3
  • The ability to lead and work effectively in cross college teams and establish positive relationships and bring about improvements
  • Good IT skills
  • Clear written and verbal Communications skills

The Manchester College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational further education college situated in Openshaw, Manchester. It is a 16-plus institution with funding from the Education Funding Agency and Skills Funding Agency. There are approximately 25,850 learners receiving further education from the age of 14 and over.

The Manchester College was opened 61 years ago, but its roots go back almost 200 years to the foundation of St John’s Sunday School, followed by the 1921 foundation of Byron Street School. The institution united as The Manchester College in August 2008.
