Located in the town of Monifieth, Angus, Scotland, Monifieth High School is a co-educational six-year secondary school. With over 1100 students aged 11-18, Monifieth is noticeably larger than the average secondary school. Since its establishment in 1976, the school has seen extensive renovation and modernisation. As a result, the school today can boast of a wide range of modern teaching and recreational facilities.

Headteacher

Mrs M-C McInally

Our Vision of Excellence

In our school community we will teach our young people to the best possible standard and  encourage them to use their unique talents and great potential to improve lives. In this context, the development and delivery of Curriculum for Excellence is focused on achieving our Vision of Excellence stated below:

The school has three overarching themes;  Attainment, Health and Community and everything we do comes under these headings to provide;

  • The highest levels of attainment and wider achievement for every individual young person to progress to a sustained positive destination
  • The promotion of positive health to improve the lives and life chances of all our young people
  • The fostering of community spirit and involvement in school and the wider community

We will do this through:

Learning and Teaching

By providing the highest quality education for all the young people and a belief that every child matters. We provide a range of progression pathways to meet learners' needs allowing learners to progress at different rates and in different ways at a good pace appropriate to their prior learning in line with the highest aspirations.

There are opportunities to develop skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work with a continuous focus on literacy, numeracy and health and well-being

Our staff promote the research of Professor John Hattie's 'Visible Learning' to encourage assessment capable learners.  The staff respond to and meet the needs of all learners and are delivering the CfE entitlements.

Our staff develop courses to ensure our curriculum is dynamic and challenging, to reflect innovation, but are also flexible to meet the needs and interests of young people to allow them to thrive. In every classroom we nurture positive relationships.

Our pupils experience active and collaborative learning experiences; are given responsibility for their own learning and opportunities to cooperate with others in their learning.

We believe in promoting the four capacities to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors to society to encourage a culture, ethos and vision that reflects the belief that every child matters.

Teachers model respect for one another and all members of the school community.

Ethos and Life of our school

We as a school community create a safe, secure and happy environment in which young people will flourish, built on mutual respect.

Our young people have opportunity to demonstrate their talent and skills and achieve recognition from the school community and be celebrated in various achievement ceremonies.

The pupil and parent voice is key in the on going improvement cycle of our school and we have several ways of capturing their views in our school self-evaluation process.

Visitors Feedback

"I really enjoyed my visit to Monifieth High and should be grateful if you could pass on my thanks to all who were generous with their time and who at my meetings with them were kind, open and honest.

I will very much remember the pride and sense of community from everyone I met. The hard work and determination to improve was evident. I will long remember the young people - for their success, sense of worth, ambition, laughter, commitment to others and sheer brilliance. What pride you must have in leading the school which allows visitors to leave with these indelible impressions."
