Job overview

EXCITING … GROWING … YOUTHFUL … BRADFORD.

Bradford is one of the most varied and exciting cities in the UK, and a major regional centre for culture, leisure and enterprise. We’re committed to developing the council’s capacity and resources to serve our communities to the best of our potential. Our Deputy Director, Education & Learning has a vital role to play in building our new Bradford.

With the youngest population in the UK, we know our young people can be the catalyst and engine for future success. You will work with all partners across the education system to improve outcomes, harnessing and unleashing the pride, energy and ambitions of our young people and their families.

Bradford is a complex education environment. We’re successfully addressing our challenges and were recently assessed as having the fourth most improved schools’ performance in the country. We focus on outcomes, have established positive partnerships and are embracing innovative approaches to accelerate success.

You’ll be immersed in improving education, learning and attainment and will bring a commitment to working with partners across the system wherever you can make a positive difference. You’ll have experience of succeeding in similarly complex systems at a senior level, working in the spotlight with a constantly evolving population, multiple partners and a ‘will-do’ culture. We’re looking for someone with deep knowledge across the education system, who can build on our significant improvements, so that our young people are better connected, confident and equipped to thrive in a changing world.

To find out more, please visit www.teambradford.co.uk or call either Mark Tobin (07717 725844) or Stephen Cooley (07747 698829) at Proventure Consulting for a confidential discussion.

Education is entering a challenging new era as attention focuses on the district's efforts to raise educational standards and ensure all its pupils achieve their full potential. Partnership is seen as the key to success and many stakeholder groups - including headteachers, governors, teachers, parents and community groups - are closely involved in the change process.

The reorganisation of the district's schools into a two-tier system to reflect the national curriculum is supported by a massive investment programme involving new school buidlings, extensions, refurbishment of classrooms and other facilities at a total of 156 schools.

A Strategic Partnership is now in place in which responsibility for delivering services to support schools will be shared between the Council and an external, private sector company. The partnership will be advised by the Education Policy Partnership, an independent body bringing together all those with an interest in the future of education in the district.

The focus is on changing and improving education services provided to schools to enable them to meet new and challenging targets. It is not about privatising schools, which will continue to be run and managed by headteachers and governors. The aim is to support and challenge schools to raise standards of achievement and help pupils reach their full potential.
