We know that exceptional Science practitioners are in high demand which is why we are offering a recruitment and retention bonus of £2,000 for the right candidate (£1,000 payable upon joining, and £1,000 payable after 1 year's service).


We are looking for a dynamic and visionary Deputy Director of Learning - Science to join our team from September 2024. In this role, you will work closely with the Director of Learning to drive forward the science department, inspiring both students and staff to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of science education at Leigh Academy Minster.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Learning to develop and implement a forward-thinking science curriculum that engages and challenges students.
  • Lead and support a team of passionate science teachers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Utilise data analysis to monitor student progress and attainment within the science department, identifying areas for intervention and enhancement.
  • Promote best practices in science teaching and learning, incorporating inquiry-based approaches and real-world applications.
  • Champion the use of technology and digital resources to enhance the teaching and learning experience for both students and staff.
  • Foster strong partnerships with parents, carers, and external stakeholders to support student achievement and well-being.
  • Contribute to the wider strategic development of the academy, participating in cross-curricular initiatives and school improvement projects.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Substantial experience teaching science at secondary level, with a proven track record of raising student achievement.
  • A deep understanding of current trends and developments in science education, including curriculum design and assessment practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • A passion for science education and a commitment to fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking skills in students.


The basis of this role is full-time, permanent and offering a salary of MPS/UPS commensurate with experience plus a TLR 2B (£6,819)
