Inspired Learning Group (ILG) a growing group of independent preparatory schools and nurseries are looking to recruit an experienced Deputy Head (Academic) and Teacher of Year 4 at Westbury House Preparatory School and Nursery, based in New Malden, London.

Westbury House Preparatory School is a small preparatory school and nursery that promotes a caring and nurturing family atmosphere for all. The Deputy Head Academic is responsible for aspects of the day-to-day management of the school and as such, must be committed to working towards the best possible environment for the nurture and education of all pupils.

• Ensure all pupils are as safe as they can be, ensuring rigorous implementation of school safeguarding policies and procedures. 

• Work closely with the Head and Deputy Head (Pastoral) to ensure good behaviour and support in the maintenance of the rewards and sanctions systems.

• Take the lead on all curriculum matters throughout the school to ensure they reflect the National Curriculum priorities and School priorities as well as provide continuity across key stages; this include subject leading both Maths and English. 

• Be responsible for managing of Teaching Staff in all aspects of Teaching and Learning to include the provision of mentorship and support as required

• Monitor and lead pupil tracking and assessment as well as work closely with Data Co-Ordinator to analyse and review academic data; work collaboratively with Assessment Lead, to ensure points of assessment are meaningful and purposeful and are clear indicators of progress.

• Having identified integration of technology as a key (and urgent) area for development, liaise with relevant colleagues and professionals to develop a suitable strategy (to include resource acquisition and training) to address this need.

• Meet with parents alongside form tutors to discuss pupil development and address concerns relating to academic outcomes or quality of academic provision

• Assist the Head with quality assurance including Lesson observations and learning walks, Book scrutiny and Learning Meetings. 

• Assist the Head in reporting of pupil progress across the School including the oversight of Parent Meetings and Academic Reports

• To support the Head with preparation for school inspection

• Has responsibility for timetable planning in conjunction with the Head

• Rotate leadership of weekly whole school assembly

TEACHING RESPONSIBILTY (50%):

The Year 4 Form Teacher will have responsibility for overseeing the academic and personal progress for the members of the Form.

• To be responsible for the day to day management of the class and for the safety and welfare of the pupils both on-site and off-site

• To promote the welfare of children and to support the school in safeguarding children though relevant policies and procedures

• To plan and prepare lessons in order to deliver the School Curriculum.

• To communicate and consult with parents over all aspects of their children’s education – academic, social and emotional

• To maintain a regular system of monitoring, assessment, record-keeping and reporting of children’s progress

• To be part of a team preparing a performance (Drama). 

• To participate in staff meetings as required and to be part of a whole school team, actively involved in decision-making on the preparation and development of policies and programmes of study, teaching materials, resources, methods of teaching and pastoral arrangements.

• To take part in the staff duty rota covering morning and lunch breaks

• To ensure that school policies are reflected in daily practice
