Bedales is looking to appoint its next Deputy Head (Academic). The successful applicant will be responsible for driving the school’s progressive pedagogy, supporting and developing its teachers as skilled and accomplished classroom practitioners, and ensuring the best academic outcomes for its students.

You will manage directly the Assistant Head (Student Progress) and the Assistant Head (Learning and Development), and under your aegis will be the Faculty Heads and Heads of Department. As an experienced, well-qualified teacher of your subject from Key Stage 3 to Oxbridge, you will model academic excellence and communicate it enthusiastically to students to develop their life-long love of learning.

You should also be keen to play a full and inclusive role in the life of our busy boarding community, and be able to contribute to the development of our innovative school through an enthusiastic embrace of new ways of teaching, learning, and working.

 Start date of 1 January 2021 is preferable but negotiable. A competitive salary package, including accommodation and fee remission is offered.

Bedales School is an independent, co-educational, selective, day and boarding school for children aged 3-18. It is situated in Petersfield in Hampshire and there are 460 pupils on its roll. There are admission fees and scholarships and bursaries are available.

Bedales is a charitable trust and was founded in 1893 by J H Badley as a humane alternative to the authoritarian regimes of the late-Victorian public schools. Its founding ethos was, and still is, “Head, Hand and Heart.”
