Job overview

Leighton Park is looking to appoint an ambitious and innovative Deputy Head Academic who will bring fresh ideas and purpose with a clear vision for delivering academic success that is sympathetic to the School’s Quaker foundation and ethos: achievement with values, character and a sense of community.

Leighton Park is an outstanding HMC independent day and boarding school for 520 boys and girls aged 11-18 where young people learn how to think, to believe in themselves and to grow within a community. Within walking distance of Reading town centre, the school is set in 65 acres of picturesque Berkshire parkland providing an atmosphere of mutual respect, where every student is given the confidence to find out who they really are and unearth their individual academic and co-curricular talents. Pupils build strong relationships with one another and those around them.

Leighton Park offers GCSEs and A-Levels, as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma and is particularly well known for STEAM subjects, the creative Arts and Music. Reporting to the Head, the Deputy Head Academic will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and play a key role in the strategic and operational management of the school as a whole.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and forward-thinking individual to develop their senior leadership career at a long-established day and boarding HMC school.

Interested candidates are invited to contact Michael Stephens, Head of Senior School Search for an initial, informal discussion about the post: michaelstephens@rsacademics.com / +44 (0)7834 520995.

Further information about the role and details of how to apply can be found at rsacademics.com

Closing date: 10.00am on Thursday, 21st January 2021.

Leighton Park is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The post is subject to a range of background checks, sight of original qualification certificates, satisfactory references and a medical.

Leighton Park School is a successful, forward looking independent (HMC) day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 11-18 set in 65 acres of magnificent parkland.

Leighton Park exists to form young people of real character and confidence, with a determined desire to change the world, reflecting the school’s Quaker values. In 2023 we won Senior School of the Year in the national Independent Schools Association Awards. We were also a finalist in the Independent Senior School of the Year in the TES Schools Awards 2023.

We are a school that inspires Achievement with Values, Character and Community and academic excellence is the consequence of our approach. Valuing breadth and depth, we are distinguished by excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM), Music and Ethical Enterprise. The UK Government’s latest 16-18 league tables reveal Leighton Park to be the best performing School in Berkshire and in the top 1% of English schools. We are one of only eight schools to have always appeared in the top 100.

We challenge our students to imagine a better world. We then support them to develop the character, confidence and determination to be changemakers.
