The role

We are seeking a qualified teacher to lead as Deputy Head for Teaching and Learning in Southwark’s Virtual School.

You will be an expert in the field of education provision for looked after children and know how to raise pupil achievement. Your passion will tackling inequality and narrowing the achievement gap between looked after children and their peers, ensuring that this vulnerable group have the chance to realise their full potential.

You will need experience at a senior level of working with a vulnerable client group and in-depth knowledge of statutory guidance for local authorities to promote the educational achievement of looked after children. Excellent managerial skills and an understanding of finance are needed to thrive in this role. Most importantly, you will have the ability to work collaboratively with schools and social care practitioners.

Working alongside the Deputy Head, Support and Guidance and the Head of the Virtual School, you’ll make sure that the best possible teaching and learning is secured for pupils. You will ensure the Virtual School’s compliance with legislative, inspection and commissioning frameworks and adhere to SEN statutory duties.
