Job overview

Are you interested in making a difference to the lives of some of London’s most vulnerable young people by supporting them to engage in education? Are you a qualified social worker with experience of working directly with children and young people with challenging behaviour, and complex needs? Are you able to work innovatively and creatively to meet individual need while considering potential risk? Do you have experience of working with / in schools and taking the lead on safeguarding? Do you have a good understanding of young people’s mental health?

Since 1999 TCES Group has offered outstanding day-school education to some of the most vulnerable children and young people in the country, whose special education needs cannot be met in mainstream schools, alternative provision or other special schools.

We believe that every child should be given the chance to succeed and the opportunity to thrive. Uniquely, our inclusion model supports pupils with complex and co-morbid Social, Emotional or Mental Health (SEMH) needs or an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) together. These pupils enjoy learning alongside in the most inclusive environments where they can experience school life without labels.

Our pupils often have previously undiagnosed learning needs, and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) often underpin their other barriers to learning. Many of these pupils are 'Looked After Children' who are in foster care or children's homes, and a large percentage of pupils have an average gap of 18 months since they were last in full time group education.

TCES Group schools are situated across London and Essex. The Group also operates a specialist service, parallel to each of its schools - the Create Service. This is a relationship-based, multi-disciplinary provision for pupils with multiple and complex needs who have been unable to operate safely and successfully in a small class setting.

We are looking for someone with brilliant interpersonal skills who can engage with challenging young people and their families and support them in attending our Create provision. You will have experience of case co-ordination and of working with a range of partnership agencies including statutory services in order to provide a joined-up package of support. You will have experience of managing teams and providing supervision to a range of different staff. In close consultation with our company wide safeguarding lead you will take responsibility for safeguarding and child protection within Create. You will work closely with the Co Deputy Head for Education to embed the TCES model based on our 5-part curriculum that provides a holistic approach to supporting young people to reach their full potential.

The benefits of working for the TCES Group include:

6 weeks annual leave (excluding public holidays).

A company Pension scheme, cycle-to work-scheme and Employee Assistance Program (this list is not exhaustive)

A full CPD program including opportunities to undertake professional qualifications, and specialist training from experts in Teaching and Learning, Social Care, mental health and multi-agency working.

For an informal telephone discussion prior to application please call the HR department on 020 8543 7878.

Please apply by completing the application and equal opportunities forms on our website via the button below.

Closing date for receipt of applications: 9am Monday 25th February 2019

Shortlisted candidates will be notified on 26 February 2019 and be invited to interview on 1st March 2019.

The TCES Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expects all staff to share this commitment. The appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of the safeguarding vetting process including an enhanced DBS disclosure.
