One of Australia’s leading independent schools for boys, Scotch College is renowned for its innovation in pedagogy, exceptional teaching and learning facilities, and its commitment to offering a broad education to develop each boy to his full potential.

Commencing in 2023, Scotch College seeks to appoint a teacher who has relevant tertiary qualifications and relevant experience to the role of Deputy Head of the Junior School.

The Deputy Head of the Junior School influences, inspires, empowers and supports all in the Scotch community to create an environment in which boys in the Junior School can flourish.

The Deputy Head of Junior School assists the Head of Junior School in driving the daily operational endeavours of students, staff and the wider community of Scotch College between the Prep to Year 6 age levels, whilst also being integral in strategic consideration as the School continually evolves.

The Deputy Head is a member of the Junior School Executive team and will stand in for the Head of Junior School in their absence. As an outstanding teacher in their own right, the Deputy Head is also a member of the teaching team and subsequently a role-model for best practice in and out of the classroom.

As a senior leader within the Junior School, the Deputy Head must develop strong and positive relationships with students, staff and parents. The Deputy Head plays a lead role in upholding School safeguarding policy and procedures, cultivating and promoting our School ethos, reinforcing collegiality and maintaining an effective and safe environment for learning.

Through strong organisational skills, the Deputy Head will support day-to-day activity within the Junior School, creating opportunity for staff to deliver a world-class curriculum, provide outstanding pastoral support and generating a plethora of opportunities for boys to find their own niche.

The Deputy Head has a strong understanding of the development of primary aged children and the great need for flexibility within a Junior School in order to provide for each individual. They must also have a strong appreciation for the role of parents/guardians in each child’s life and ways in which Schools can effectively work with such adults to improve outcomes for children.

The Deputy Head is a key conduit between Junior and Senior schools, recognising the symbiotic relationship between these two key stages in a child’s education. Whilst a senior leader within the Junior School they also play an active role in supporting Whole School development and activity.

This full-time, and ongoing, position in the Junior School is recognised as a senior leadership role within the Junior School Executive Team. The Deputy Head of Junior School will have a teaching component to their role. The successful candidate will be expected to start in the new academic year, 2023.

Applications should indicate appropriate expertise and experience. Support of the College’s Christian philosophy and co-curriculum is also expected.
