Job overview

Tes is supporting the appointment of a Deputy Head of A Levels: Head of Science and Maths to support the Head of A Levels in leading the A Level provision at a Sixth Form College based in Widnes, to ensure that achievement, value added and the student experience are exceptional.

Leadership

  • To provide day to day management and leadership across the team to ensure a high quality A-Level curriculum
  • To inspire and motivate the A-Level Science and Maths team by creating a positive team ethos
  • To support the Head of A-Levels in leading a culture with high standards and staff feel empowered and recognised
  • To work closely with other Heads of Schools and Deputy Heads of A-Level to ensure consistency of experience across the provision
  • To identify curriculum developments and requirements including national trends and initiatives, with particular focus on the linear A-Level programme.
  • To ensure that the strategic targets of the college are fully embedded within the department and contribute to achieving these targets and college priorities
  • To provide support, coaching and mentoring to the team
  • To enhance and develop the role of personal tutor

Teaching and Learning

  • To develop and implement teaching and learning strategies which ensure students are successful in the subjects of A-Level Science and Maths
  • To promote student centred learning, ensuring all students have access to differentiated learning materials
  • To promote stretch and challenge so all students reach their full potential
  • To identify and implement strategies to ensure that the student’s learning experience is of the highest standard
  • To ensure issues arising from the college teaching and learning observation process are actioned
  • To teach a number of hours as agreed with college management
  • To share good practice to support the colleges teaching, learning and digital strategy
