Job overview

This is a new and exciting opportunity to join the University of Wolverhampton’s Access and Outreach team and to lead on the work of the new Aspire to HE consortium that is part of the HEFCE-funded National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP). NCOP aims to increase the number of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in higher education by 2020.

The Access and Outreach team runs a wide range of aspiration-raising programmes for learners of all ages, including the Black Country Children’s University and targeted activity for looked after children and mature students. The Aspire to HE NCOP consortium is led by the University of Wolverhampton in partnership with colleges across the Black Country and Telford and Wrekin. It has been awarded £8m over four years to transform the progression rates of young people in target wards entering higher education.

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual who has a track record in widening participation and significant experience of managing partnership-based projects that make a real difference to students’ aspirations, rates of progression to higher education and, ultimately, students’ life chances and opportunities for social mobility.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will have experience of higher education, an incisive understanding of widening participation issues and both knowledge and experience of delivering imaginative, innovative and transformational projects that inspire students and have significant impact on their participation in higher education. You will also have excellent financial management skills and previous success in delivering complex projects that involve challenging objectives, milestones and the provision of robust monitoring returns.

Due to the nature of this post, a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.
