Job overview

Newhaven School- King’s Park:  Deputy Head of Campus

An Assistant Head is required to join this rapidly expanding provision in the Royal Borough of Greenwich which meets the needs of young people with diagnoses of Autism and severe mental health concerns. You will ideally have experience with high functioning youngsters on the spectrum but more important to us is your ability to lead and inspire staff and students alike. An outstanding teacher with a can do attitude and the resilience to work with our challenging cohort, you are also excited by the prospect of working in a dynamic, forward looking environment and the opportunity to build something new and special.

Job title: Deputy Head of Campus

Salary:   Leadership L12 – L14 (Inner London)

Location:  Greenwich

Contract type:  Full Time

Contract term:  Permanent

You will work alongside the Head of Campus and as part of the wider Newhaven leadership team. Your responsibilities will depend on your experience but will include some from teaching and learning, curriculum, assessment, development of ICT and virtual learning, 6th form, learning outside, community and elements of staff wellbeing.

Although not essential you will have direct experience of intervention programmes and frameworks such as SPELL, TEACCH and SCERTS. A sound grounding in SEND is also desirable. You will be joining a senior leadership team who have overseen the rapid improvement and expansion of the service and who are determined to give our students the best opportunities possible to become successful, responsible citizens with bright futures. In addition we opened a new provision – ‘Newhaven King’s Park Campus’ moved into a refitted building in May 2016 (Eltham Palace Road, SE9 5LX). King’s Park is a school for students with a diagnosis of Autism (generally high functioning) and severe mental health needs). We currently have 23 students on roll at King’s Park in years 9,10,12 and 13 and offer a curriculum founded on academic progress, social communication and emotional literacy. We have been asked by the local authority to accelerate our expansion programme and are looking to recruit so we can accommodate up to 48 pupils by September 2017 and then 55 the year after.

Closing date  Wednesday 22/03/2017 Midday

Interviews  Week commencing 27/03/2017

“Newhaven is different to other PRUs because Newhaven will never give up on you, no matter what. They push you to do your very best and guide and support you to the end and even after.”

Zaqiel, Year 11

Newhaven Pupil Referral Unit is a high performing and complex alternative provision set in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We believe in providing opportunities for students to become independent and well-rounded individuals ready to embrace all that life has to offer, removing the barriers to learning that have hindered their progress up to now.

At Newhaven we have an extremely effective team of dedicated staff to support the progress of every child, including specialist LSAs and HLTAs, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and CAMHS link workers. Our most recent Ofsted report notes that Newhaven pupils “benefit from a committed team of professionals who enjoy coming to work. This is because they feel valued and are supported to work together to improve pupils’ outcomes”.

Newhaven has a positive "can do" attitude, believing that the sky is the limit, and we think creatively and innovatively to meet the needs of our learners and school community. Our examination results and student destinations are a testament to this.
