Job overview

Do you have a passion for teaching that instils a love of geography  in your students?  Can you inspire the next generation with the  opportunity to teach up to and including A Level?  Can you involve all  ages and abilities in engaging learning experiences and work to help  support a dynamic team?

Then working at Mascalls Academy, where we pride ourselves on high  academic achievement, where personal qualities are valued highly and  where the atmosphere is friendly and purposeful, might be for you.  We  are on the move to ‘Outstanding’ and are looking for forward-thinking,  emotionally intelligent and innovative teachers to join a supportive  team that is committed to improving the life chances of young people.   As a member of the geography department you would be responsible for  delivering outstanding lessons and contributing to the wider education  agenda: aspiring learners and raising standards.  You would be part of  an organisation that enjoys a great reputation in the area and one that  will develop your career; we have a fantastic track record and there are  numerous opportunities for professional development.

About the role:  Geography has become increasingly  significant in the national performance indicators and we expect all of  our students to be challenged, to be inspired and to achieve beyond  expectation.  Please refer to the Job Description for more specific details. As a Geography Teacher and Deputy Head of Department (2ic)  you will be responsible for delivering outstanding lessons and  contributing to the wider education agenda, inspiring learners and  raising standards.  The successful candidate will join us for September  2017.

What we are offering:

1.    A salary commensurate with experience.
2.    Professional coaching and support to enhance teaching and learning.
3.    Laptop computer.
4.    Performance related salary enhancement.
5.    Opportunity to teach across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.
6.    Bespoke CPD programme.
7.    Complementary holistic therapy to support staff wellbeing.
8.    Free use of a staff gymnasium.
9.    A thriving social and community ethos.

We’d like to hear from you if you are:

1.    An excellent teacher/trainee with an outstanding record.
2.    Collaborative, building strong professional relationships.
3.    Able to motivate and inspire students to achieve their full potential.
4.    Energetic and have a ‘can-do’ attitude.
5.    Someone who can have a measurable impact as an individual teacher and throughout the school.
6.    Committed to the happiness and wellbeing of everyone at the school.

Working at Mascalls Academy:  Mascalls Academy is a  secondary school at the heart of the community and our small school  model ensures that each and every student gets the personal support and  challenge they need to reach their full potential.  The academy is  divided into four colleges – Shackleton, Earhart, Luther King and Marie  Curie Sixth Form College each having their own personality and range of  specialisms, allowing them to be unique.

Mascalls Academy is a high achieving institution.  Our recent OFSTED  inspection notes “ambitious leadership has established an ethos where  staff are committed to driving standards up”, that Mascalls is a “happy  place to be” and that “staff feel valued”.  Our judgement that we are a  ‘Good’ school with ‘Outstanding’ leadership and behaviour is accurate.  It is our vision to become ‘Outstanding’ in every category.  Our most  recent inspection can be found here.

We can offer you the chance to be part of a strong and collaborative  department, not only within Mascalls but with the wider Trust as well.  Full support will be provided and you’ll have the tools and environment  needed to teach in a way that works for you.  We know that being a  teacher can be both challenging and rewarding in equal measures and that  you thrive on inspiring young adults and stimulating their curiosity.   We aim to give our teachers the freedom to innovate and inspire our  students as we know this is a crucial ingredient to driving great  learning outcomes.

What we are looking for in you:  To be successful  you need to be a qualified teacher who is passionate and knowledgeable  about your subject and committed to delivering the best geography  education for our students.  Whether you are at the start of your career  or an expert teacher we focus on what attributes you will bring to the  academy and, most importantly, what impact you will have on our  students.  As a Trust, we feel it is important to appoint for the right  attitude which is why we look for teachers that are enthusiastic,  focused, resilient and emotionally intelligent.  We are passionate about  diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something  unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or  disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally and without  compromise.

The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
